DSSC - Development Communication Program

𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝑳𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒃𝒂𝒚𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒔, 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒔: 𝑬𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔, 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆

The BS - Development Communication program has successfully conducted their undergraduate seminar that introduced the 3rd year and 4th year students of DevCom as well as the Grade 11 students and faculty of Matti National High School to leadership rooted in Filipino heritage and courage. Through lectures, interactive discussions, and workshops, participants explored the role of the Babaylan while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills. The session also provided a space for students to reflect on their learnings and apply them to their roles as emerging leaders.

The program also extends their gratitude to the Sangguniang Kabataan of Matti, Digos City for the partnership.

‎𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗜, 𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗦 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 — In celebration of National Women’s Month, the BSDC 4th Year Section A students successfully conducted a seminar titled “Lead like Babaylans, Filipinas: Empowering Communities, Leading with Courage.” Under the guidance of Ma’am Cheryl G. Nacion, the initiative was implemented for DevCom 3rd and 4th year students as well as the Grade 11 students and faculty of Matti National High School as part of the DEVC 628 – Undergraduate Seminar course.

‎The program opened with a welcome from Ma’am Cheryl G. Nacion, who recognized the presence of the school, its partners, and the students. She also introduced the guest speaker and provided a brief context for the discussion.

‎The highlight of the event featured guest speaker Ma’am Helina P. D**a, GAD Focal Person of Davao Oriental State University, who challenged traditional stereotypes about women in leadership. She emphasized that women’s natural traits—including their emotional intelligence and unique biological experiences—should not be viewed as limitations. Instead, she reframed these as sources of strength and authenticity, contributing to a more empathetic and grounded leadership style.

‎Inspired by the discussion, the Grade 11 participants and faculty, together with the 3rd year and 4th year students engaged in reflections on how they could apply these values within their own campus and the community. The session encouraged students to take initiative, support their peers, and realize that leadership often begins with small, intentional actions in their daily lives.

‎The event’s success was a result of a collaborative effort between the BSDC organizers, the faculty of Matti National High School, and the Sangguniang Kabataan of Matti. Hosts Dherie Queen Azutilla and Adones Gabutero guided the morning’s flow, while various committees worked behind the scenes to ensure a seamless program. The organizers expressed their deep gratitude to the school administration and to Ma’am Cheryl G. Nacion for her mentorship in bringing this vision of community empowerment to life.

DSSC's College of Agriculture and Related Sciences (CARS) participates in the 2nd Annual Dean’s Association of Agricultural Schools, Inc. (DAASI) Student Regional Convention, held from November 6 to 8, 2025, at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Tagum-Mabini Campus, in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. The event brings together student leaders, faculty advisers, and delegates from various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering agriculture and allied programs across Region XI.

This convention aims to strengthen collaboration among agricultural institutions, promote student engagement, and uphold DAASI's shared commitment to academic excellence and regional development in the agricultural sector. Throughout the event, participants are taking part in various competitions that allow them to showcase their skills, knowledge, and passion for agriculture.

As the event continues, DSSC’s CARS is actively contributing to the spirit of collaboration and competition, representing Davao del Sur State College and reinforcing the importance of unity in advancing agriculture in the region.
