Today is not just another Monday, it is the start of something bigger than yesterday. A new beginning full of faces that you don't know or faces that are familiar from yesterday. The alarm that wakes us up is like the reality we needed to face to chase our dreams.

Say goodbye to the cozy bed, phone, and endless scrolls that will be replaced with desk lessons and pens, where every page we turn, and every problem we solve makes us better.

So let us all welcome the new school year 2026 - 2027, more fun in learning Vanguards!

On June 5, 2026, Compostela National High School (CNHS) is on the final day of the enrollment process. The week of assigning students to their sections, preparing classrooms and faculties, and ultimately readying for the beginning of a new school year is ending.

Starting the week with an energizing fun run and a motorcade, it truly sets the mood for students, parents, and teachers to prepare themselves and the areas theyโ€™ll be utilizing.

Starting command.

Just as racers begin when the referees give the starting command, the students and parents began their own race of enrollment and cleaning in different paces last June 1, 2026, the beginning of the Brigada Eskwela and Enrollment Process.

It began with a colored fun run, the event officially opening the Brigada Eskwela week. However, it was said to be more than just a fun runโ€”it is a fundraising activity while also highlighting stronger collaboration between students, parents, and stakeholders.

Nevertheless, it ended with bright smiles and colored white t-shirts on drenched yet joyous learners who are both excited and dreading the opening of classes.

Somewhere along the racetrack.

Like how racers control their breath, manage discomfort, and occasionally hydrate themselves along the racetrack, participants of the Brigada Eskwela clean, donate, and organize along the week. Through collective love and dedication to the school, various individuals that make up the school make the whole process of maintaining and creating an inclusive environment far more efficient.

Even the Supreme Secondary Learnersโ€™ Government (SSLG) officers note the heightened number of leaners, parents, stakeholders, and the spirit of collaboration.

Reaching the finish line.

As the racers slowly approach the finish line, the clock of June 5, 2026 ticks to its own end, and with it being the final day of the Brigada Eskwela week, finalizations, donations, and the contribution of organizing faculties and classrooms slowly wrap up.

This event is not just mere maintenance of a school, rather a bold declaration that the people of CNHS are prepared for the first day of the school year 2026-2027. With collective efforts, loyalty, and duty towards CNHS and its people, the Brigada Eskwela has come to an end.

Every school year, a few days before the school bell โ€”collecting dust over time โ€” rings for the first time in a while, something extraordinary happens across thousands of public schools in the Philippines. Parents, students, and the community come together with each playing a role suited to what they can offer. Donations, service, and time, Brigada Eskwela (School Brigade), a program created by the Department of Education (DepEd), is a yearly event that knits people of all ages and positions together, for the single goal of refurbishing and preparing the school for the upcoming first day.

Young pupils, parents and guardians, and the ever-hard-working teachers and school personnel do little things, that, when done as a team go a long way. For many, it is among their first lessons in civic responsibility.

No one is better suited to care for a place than the people who lived and loved it, and as said by Irene C. Bulan, Compostela National High School Senior High Focal person said, โ€œIts not only about the physical contributions but the prominent impact not only on the school but also the learners". To call it a maintenance activity is to miss the point entirely, because itโ€™s a declaration that a school belongs to its community.

โ€œIt's not only a conclusive place for learning, but also a safe place for both junior high and senior high students due to the success of the Brigada Eskwelaโ€ as stated by Bulan, its not about just being facilities for education, but a place that students would want to go to because of the comfort and inclusivity. What makes Brigada Eskwela distinct is that it promotes participation, reducing cases of teachers having to spend out of their budgets and pockets just to make their classrooms and environment more functional even when their paychecks are less than what they deserve. A practice born out of dedication, but also of a system that has not always been able to fully supply what classrooms need, and a sad reality teachers have long learned to accept as an obligation. A sacrifice rarely discusses in policy circle in politics, but well understood in faculty rooms.

With kind donations helping ease burdens on both teachers and incoming student, lessening tendencies of future financial contributions for small things like chalk, brooms, brushes, curtains, cleaning supplies and sometimes even fans to counter the Philippines scorching weather. . It also showcases that educators arenโ€™t just limited to the role of teaching, because they often take on the duty of project managers and coordinators.

When the school year begins and desks and chairs fill with children, they arenโ€™t just surrounded by four wallsโ€”but by the visible proof that many people worked, gave, and showed up for them. That Brigada Eskwela is more than just an annual National Schools Maintenance Week.

๐Ž๐๐ˆ๐๐˜๐Ž๐ | Ligtas, Handa, Natututo
