Happening Now: 46th All Aboard! Startup Cebu Mixers

Happening Now: AWS Community Day 2026 at the University of the Philippines Cebu

It’s Startup SugodBahay day in Cebu.

Tonight, founders won’t be pitching on a stage or attending a formal conference.

Instead, we’ll gather around a dinner table.

Startup SugodBahay is one of the simplest traditions we’ve built in the Cebu startup community. Every last Thursday of the month, a startup or ecosystem partner opens their headquarters, everyone brings food or drinks to share, and we spend the evening talking about what we’re building, what’s challenging us, and how we can help one another.

This month’s gathering is hosted by 70mai Cebu.

If you’re a founder, student, builder, investor, or someone curious about the startup ecosystem, you’re welcome to join us.

We’ve also rolled out a newly improved Startup SugodBahay registration and check-in system built under matheu.systems, and tonight is another real-world test with the community. If you encounter any bugs or have suggestions, we’d love to hear your feedback as we continue improving it.

See you later at Startup SugodBahay.

The 45th All Aboard! Startup Cebu Mixer concluded yesterday, August 19, 2026, at enspace Cebu, bringing together a vibrant community of innovators, founders, students, government representatives, and tech enthusiasts in one room.

The evening kicked off with a startup showcase featuring MyLolaWorks, a startup dedicated to creating employment opportunities for senior citizens and older adults aged 45 and above. The presentation was led by its founder, Engr. Ma. Teresa Barola, a retired university professor who spent more than 25 years teaching Chemistry and Physics to engineering students. Beyond academia, she has also built and managed businesses in beauty, internet cafés, real estate, and distribution.

Her tagline resonated with everyone in the room:

"I am retired, but not tired."

It was a powerful reminder that seniors still have so much to contribute beyond retirement and deserve meaningful opportunities to continue making an impact.

Later in the evening, Dr. Michael L. S. Abundo delivered a talk on building teams that build startups. He shared insights on creating strong, resilient teams and emphasized how embracing a growth mindset helps both individuals and organizations grow together, adapt, and become stronger over time.

During the community announcements, Neriah "Bj" Ato invited everyone to the upcoming AWS Community Cebu event on September 12, 2026. Andrew Matheu also announced the next Startup Sugodbahay, happening on August 27, 2026, as well as the latest Startup Spotlight episode in partnership with DTI Region 7.

Another inspiring night for the Cebu startup ecosystem, filled with meaningful conversations, fresh ideas, and new connections.
