Dear Parents and Prospective Clients:
Sharing with you updates of June 26, 2021 Seminar on New Trends in Singapore Math:
Observation and Sharing about the Seminar:
There were 88 participants who attended the seminar. Majority of them are math teachers from Quezon City. Some of them are foreign educators from Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and China.
The 2-hour seminar covers brief discussion in three main areas:
a) recent statistics on math performance of students around the world,
b) using CPA approach in solving a range of math problems from kindergarten to high school, and
c) application of teaching practices in Singapore math.
The entire duration of the seminar was very productive and interactive. Almost everyone is participating and cooperating. The open panel is full of questions. Dr. Yeap Ban Har answered three questions I have shared through chat.
Questions Asked During the Seminar:
a) What are the effective ways to teach subtraction by regrouping especially for level 1 and 2 students?
b) Are there examples in applying Singapore math in higher mathematics such as trigonometry and calculus (using bar models specifically)?
c) Do you have tips for teaching Singapore math for students with special needs (e.g. Autism and ADHD)?
