RISE FROM THE ASHES: Commemorating 35 Years of Resilience

Exactly 35 years ago today, on June 15, 1991, Mount Pinatubo woke from its 500-year slumber, unleashing the second-largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. Day turned into night as ash blanketed Central Luzon, and cascading lahars forever altered our landscapes.

But the true story of Pinatubo didn't end with devastation—it began with recovery.

Today, we look back not just to remember the gravity of the disaster, but to honor the indomitable spirit of the people of Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac, Bataan, and Nueva Ecija. Out of the ashfall arose an unyielding community bound by bayanihan (communal unity).

Thirty-five years later, what was once a site of cataclysm stands as a testament to renewal and strength. We remember the lives lost, salute the heroes of the rehabilitation, and celebrate the resilience that defined a generation.
