A control point is not accepted just because it has been placed.
It is accepted because it has been proven to be reliable.

Before that acceptance, several quiet but critical checks take place.

First is stability.
The ground must be firm and unlikely to shift.
If the point sits on weak soil or in an area prone to disturbance, it cannot be trusted long-term.

Then comes centering and marking.
The point must be clearly defined and properly marked.
Any ambiguity in its position creates future errors.

Next is measurement verification.
Distances and angles to other known points are checked.
Not once, but multiple times.
Consistency across these observations builds confidence.

Closure checks are important.
When measurements form a loop or network, they should return to the starting point within acceptable limits.
If they don't, something is wrong; and it must be corrected before moving forward.

Orientation is also confirmed.
The point must align correctly within the established coordinate system.
If orientation is off, every related measurement will carry that error.

Elevation checks follow.
Levels are verified against known benchmarks to ensure vertical accuracy is maintained.

Redundancy plays a major role.
The same point is observed from different positions or methods.
This is not repetition; it is validation.

Then comes environmental awareness.
Nearby obstructions, vibrations, or future site activities are considered.
A point that is accurate today but vulnerable tomorrow is a risk.

Finally, documentation and identification are confirmed.
The point must be easy to locate, describe, and recheck at any time.

But beyond all these checks, there is a deeper principle:

A control point is not accepted because it “looks correct.”
It is accepted because it has withstood questioning.

Because once a control point is approved, it becomes a reference for everything else.
Any hidden error at this stage does not stay small; it spreads.

The real strength of a project often depends on how strict this acceptance process is.

So the real question is:

Are control points being accepted based on convenience, or based on thorough verification that can stand the test of the entire project?
