BACO, ORIENTAL MINDORO โ Strengthening its preparedness for possible emergencies, Baco National High School (BNHS) conducted a safety drill in coordination with the Baco Municipal Police Station and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Sept 3.
The activity began with a short orientation attended by students, teachers, and school personnel. Dr. Loida S. Pigon, OIC- Assistant Principal of SHS Department, explained the proper measures to take in case an unauthorized person enters the school with the intention of harming others.
Pigon reminded participants to immediately secure their classrooms by closing the curtains when windows have no jalousies, locking the doors, and using available chairs or tables to block entry points such as doors and windows. She emphasized the importance of staying alert and following safety protocols during such situations.
Meanwhile, Maโam May H. Bersoto welcomed the visiting police and fire officers as well as the participating students and school personnel.
After that, Police Officer Reden Dueรฑas reminded teachers and students who use motorcycles to always wear helmets while riding. " Wearing a helmet is an important safety practice that can help protect riders from serious injury in case of road accidents", he said.
Following the initial orientation, Sir Nilo Rabino, School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (SDRMMO) Coordinator, discussed important considerations in responding to emergencies. He also explained the โRun, Hide, and Fightโ protocol as a guide in dealing with dangerous situations.
The safety drill was conducted with the participation of personnel from the Baco PNP and BFP, who observed the school's emergency response, evacuation, and crowd management.
In an interview with the staff of โAng Batis,โ PCPL Emmanuel Francis Vesorde, investigator and representative of the Baco PNP on behalf of Police Major Kritofer Ian A. Dino, clearly addressed questions regarding the role of the police during the safety drill.
Vesorde discussed the PNP's role in maintaining order, assisting in crowd control and evacuation, and helping ensure the safety of students and school personnel during emergencies. He also shared observations on areas that the school could further improve in its emergency response.
He emphasized the importance of close coordination among the PNP, BFP, and the school, noting that effective communication and cooperation are essential for an organized response during emergencies.
Vesorde also advised students to remain calm, follow established safety procedures, and listen carefully to the instructions of authorities. He stressed that conducting regular safety drills helps students and personnel become more familiar with the appropriate responses during actual emergencies.
Meanwhile, FO1 John Carlo T. Valino of the BFP was also interviewed by the Ang Batis staff. He shared the observations of their team regarding the conduct of the safety drill, including the school's strengths and areas that may still be improved.
The activity provided students and personnel with an opportunity to practice emergency procedures and strengthen their awareness and preparedness, reinforcing BNHS's commitment to maintaining a safe and disaster-ready learning environment.

Small Device, Big Impact: BNHS Teachers Receive Voice Amplifiers as DepEd Promotes Resilience in a BANI World
BACO, Oriental Mindoro โ In line with the Department of Education's commitment to promoting teachers' welfare and enhancing classroom instruction, Baco National High School (BNHS) successfully conducted the Turn-Over Ceremony of Lapel Voice Amplifiers on August 6. The event was attended by officials from the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Oriental Mindoro, along with the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the school.
The program formally opened with a video prayer, the singing of the patriotic song "Pinoy Ako," and the presentation of the DepEd Quality Policy Statement, reaffirming the Department's commitment to delivering quality education.
In his welcome address, Principal IV Michael R. Alcala warmly welcomed OICโAssistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Haide M. Padua, representatives from the SDO of Oriental Mindoro, and the entire BNHS teaching and non-teaching workforce.
Alcala emphasized that while the lapel voice amplifier may appear to be a simple device, it is a meaningful resource that significantly supports the teaching and learning process.
"Though small in size, this device plays a vital role in helping teachers deliver lessons more effectively while protecting one of our most valuable teaching toolsโour voice," he said.
He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Department of Education and the Schools Division Office of Oriental Mindoro for providing resources that contribute to a more effective, learner-centered, and teacher-friendly classroom environment.
Representing Schools Division Superintendent Malou D. Servando, OICโAssistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Haide M. Padua delivered an inspiring message highlighting the realities of today's BANI worldโa concept that describes the complexities of modern society.
She explained that BANI stands for:
B โ Brittle: A world that may appear strong and stable but can easily be disrupted by unexpected events such as pandemics, natural disasters, rapid technological advancements, and global crises.
A โ Anxious: A reality where uncertainty often leads to stress, fear, and anxiety, affecting both personal well-being and professional performance.
N โ Non-linear: A world where cause and effect are no longer predictable. Small actions can produce significant consequences, while major efforts may not always yield expected results.
I โ Incomprehensible: An environment where many situations are difficult to understand or explain, requiring people to remain open-minded, adaptable, and willing to continuously learn.
In response to these challenges, Dr. Padua encouraged DepEd personnel to remain committed to their mission through four guiding principles: love the system despite its imperfections, love yourself by taking care of your physical and mental health while maintaining a healthy work-life balance, develop resilience to overcome challenges, and remain grateful for the opportunity to serve in the teaching profession.
A recorded message from Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara was also presented, emphasizing the Department's continuing commitment to supporting teachers through initiatives and resources that improve both instruction and teachers' well-being.
The ceremonial turnover of the lapel voice amplifiers was led by Ms. Medelyn Del Mundo, Supply Officer of the Schools Division Office of Oriental Mindoro.
Accepting the equipment on behalf of the faculty, Mr. Nolie Paglinawan, Faculty and Employees Club (FEC) President, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Education and the Schools Division Office for their unwavering support in providing resources that empower teachers and improve classroom instruction.
The turnover ceremony underscored DepEd's continuing recognition that investing in teachers' welfare is essential to ensuring quality, inclusive, and meaningful education. More than just a communication device, the lapel voice amplifier symbolizes the Department's commitment to equipping educators with practical tools that enable them to teach effectively while safeguarding their health in an increasingly complex and ever-changing world.

Irnanie A. Enrico, BNHS BE Coordinator.

Gabayno โGabbyโ Oybad, ang kauna-unahang Parish Administrator ng SPCMA.
โBe a light and be lighted.โ Ito ang mensaheng nais ipalaganap ni Rev. Fr.
