The country had its first National Artist in Fernando C. Amorsolo. The official title “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art” was bestowed on Amorsolo when the Manila Hilton inaugurated its art center on January 23, 1969, with an exhibit of a selection of his works. Returning from his studies abroad in the 1920s, Amorsolo developed the backlighting technique that became his trademark were figures, a cluster of leaves, a spill of hair, the swell of breast, are seen aglow on canvas. This light, Nick Joaquin opines, is the rapture of a sensualist utterly in love with the earth, with the Philippine sun, and is an accurate expression of Amorsolo’s own exuberance. His citation underscores all his years of creative activity which have “defined and perpetuated a distinct element of the nation’s artistic and cultural heritage”.

Nick Joaquin, one of the most distinguished Filipino writers in English, is known for his “Joaquinesque” style that enriched the language with Spanish-flavored and Filipino-infused expressions. His works often explore the Philippines’ colonial past and the psychology of social change, as seen in Doña Jeronima, Candido’s Apocalypse, and The Order of Melchizedek. Writing both literature and journalism under the pen name Quijano de Manila, he produced plays, novels, essays, and reportage of exceptional quality, including The Woman Who Had Two Navels, A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, and Cave and Shadows. He was the National Artist for Literature in 1976.

As the greatest teacher of all time, Jesus enlightened the world, gave them total guidance and warmed humanity’s soul in life and love
He also gave and continues to provide for His disciples’ needs towards abundant living

He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” - John 8:12 –

The Lord Jesus went beyond vocal instructions. He lived by His precepts and demonstrated genuine love and righteousness. He even died in the pathway of obedience

“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”

Lucio San Pedro was a renowned Filipino composer and teacher who made significant contributions to the development of Filipino regional band music. Born on February 11, 1913, in Angono, Rizal, Philippines, he was proclaimed a National Artist of the Philippines for Music in 1991.

The Lord Jesus really took care of each of his disciples. He defended them and kept them safe from the wiles of the devil and excessive troubles.
Even when they were faltering and failing Him, Jesus stayed with them, until the end.

“While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.” - John 17:2 -

The Lord Jesus knew that in order to lead His listeners to new teachings and doctrines, He needed to connect them first to what they already knew.
This is why the Lord taught many Old Testament ideas, personalities and situations.

28 “It was the same in the days of Lot. (People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.
29 But the day Lot left S***m, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
31 On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.

The Lord Jesus made his teaching clearer and more applicable by citing things, situations and narratives which His listeners see, understand and relate to on a daily basis.
He also mastered the use of analogies and parables to effect greater impact on the people

Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables …

Jesus is the perfect model of total humility despite His overwhelming innate wisdom, holiness and power.
He focused on adjusting to each of His students.
His main tool was empathy – understanding, forgiving, accepting and enhancing His disciples.

“15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

The Lord Jesus taught for only 3 ½ years, but His life and teaching continues to change and bless millions of people the world over

This is because he taught with divine authority, and focused only on the essential things in life. Those which tell us how to be properly related to God, how to experience a peaceful and triumphant life here and after physical death

Jesus summed this up by saying, “63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.”
John 6:63 –
