Featherston Memorial RSA

Today, we gathered to commemorate the Battle of Messines, and the close bond forged between Featherston and the town of Messines.

It was a pleasure to welcome, Hon Mike Butterick, Hon Kieran McAnulty, Dame Fran Wilde (Mayor), Andy Foster (MP), and Hilde Celie (Honourable Counsel for Belgium), and all others who attended from Featherston Memorial RSA, Carterton RSA, Greytown RSA, and Masterton RSA to the service.

A fitting time for everyone to come together and remember.

Lest We Forget.

On this day, 7 June, in 1917, the Battle of Messines commenced.

Although it came with great loss, it was one of the most successful battles of WW1 .

Many NZ troops fought and lost their lives, but it was the start of a great bond between Messines and New Zealand. A bond that has grown over the years, and one that is typified by Featherston's own unique bond with Messines.

At 10.00 am today Featherston Memorial RSA / The Last Post Restaurant & Bar will be holding a service to commemorate the battle, and the unique bond we have.

Please do come and join us at the RSA, non-members are most welcome, and a light morning tea will be served afterwards.

7.10 pm - (approximately): $ 100 members draw.

7.20 pm (approximately): $500 members draw.

7.30 pm - late: Country Duke Box- come along and enjoy the great music!!

Hi Folks, not long to go until the next fundraiser quiz at Featherston Memorial RSA / The Last Post Restaurant & Bar!!

Saturday 13 June @7.00 pm, and this one is for the Fours Team from Featherston Bowling Club. They have qualified for the National Finals in Dunedin, which is a great achievement for them, our town, and South Wairarapa.

As the trip is self-funded, all money raised goes directly towards the team's travel costs and accommodation.

Let's come together and help put our little town on the map even more than it is now!!!!

$10.00 per person, teams of up to six people.

I'm sure everyone will want to join us in congratulating Featherston Memorial RSA member and friend, Lorraine Taylor-Tams on being appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

This is a tremendous and very deserved honour for 40 years continuous commitment to education.

Many, many, congratulations Lorraine - we are all extremely proud of you!!!
