September 2026 Update. Please view them from the footpath. The beach belongs to the Penguins after dark so they can return home nightly and feed their chicks. Penguin activity at present and you shouldn’t be disappointed. Breeding is underway and around 5 to 10 are coming home every night on dark – 7 -8pm at present. Will be more coming home each night in the next couple months.
As the days get longer times become later – and with daylight savings another hour later added to darkness. By xmas its normally around 10.30pm before darkness arrives so late viewing till around midnight. General rule coming home is around 1 hour after dark.
Seasonal Activity – Annually.
Feb - Apr = Late chicks and Moulting
May - Jul = Out at Sea – May see 1 or 2 only
Aug – Sept – Mating begins and nightly activity
Oct- Jan = Mating well underway & chicks in nests may be heard or seen
