Congratulations to Ryan Martos and Shawn Faring on completing their LEEA Foundation Certificates, and a shoutout to Dave Milne for backing this kind of training across the team.

Behind every inspection tag is someone who's actually trained for it. Our testing and inspection team goes through LEEA training, the global standard for the lifting industry, starting with the fundamentals and building up to detailed, equipment-specific qualifications.

That means they're not just checking gear looks fine. They know the specific fault criteria for what they're inspecting, and when something needs to be pulled from service rather than patched up and put back to work.

It's a big part of what "no compromises on quality" actually looks like day to day.

Handling steel plate safely starts with the right lifting equipment.
Plate lifting clamps are one of the most important tools used in fabrication workshops, engineering yards, and construction projects for safely moving steel plates and fabrications.
Cookes supplies a range of Crosby IP Plate Clamps, engineered for safe lifting, turning and transferring steel plates in demanding environments.

✔ Vertical plate lifting
✔ Horizontal plate handling
✔ Non-marring clamps for finished materials
✔ Hard material clamps for high-strength steel

Crosby clamps are individually proof tested to twice their working load limit, providing confidence when lifting critical loads.

Before selecting a clamp, it’s important to understand:
• lifting orientation
• load weight and WLL
• plate hardness
• correct clamp configuration

We’ve put together a practical guide explaining how to choose the correct plate clamp for your application.

Fantastic recognition from Green Pin - Royal Van Beest!

Gary’s lifelong commitment to the lifting industry and his decades of expertise have made a lasting impact on safety and quality standards across New Zealand. It’s great to see his contribution acknowledged by one of our key partners. 👏

At Green Pin®, we believe true rigging expertise isn’t just built in steel, it’s forged in people.

That’s why today, we take a moment to honour Gary Passmore, one of our most loyal and longstanding supporters.

Gary has worked at our New Zealand distributor Bridon NZ Ltd (trading as Cookes) since 1973.

Over more than five decades, he became a fixture in the rigging industry, respected for his knowledge, trusted by colleagues, and always proud to stand behind Green Pin®.

In his own words: “𝘐𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘳.”

Gary retired on August 15th after 52 years of dedicated service.

We were honoured to personally visit him in New Zealand to say goodbye, not just to a business partner, but to a true ambassador of Green Pin® values: reliability, responsibility, and long-term commitment.

We presented Gary with a personalised Green Pin® shackle. He responded: “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘥… 𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴. 𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳.”

From all of us at Royal Van Beest and Green Pin®: thank you, Gary. Your support has meant the world to us. You’ve shown what it means to be a true centrepiece in our global rigging network.

The Buddie System — the world’s first lanyard-style emergency stop and safety communication device designed specifically for crane crews.
The Buddie System, not only limited to cranes, TBS can be used as an emergency stop system for any operation that uses two-way radios for communication, and operations where you risk lone working or being out of the line of sight.
It can be used with all types and sizes of cranes, excavators, concrete pumps, piling rigs, and by electrical spotters, among others.
Built to provide an extra layer of protection, safety and peace of mind, The Buddie System ensures that riggers, dogmen, and operators always have a direct, instant line to stop a lift if communication breaks down or conditions become unsafe.

Some key benefits for your team:
• Immediate safety alerts – emergency stop capability at the pull of a lanyard.
• LoRa long-range connectivity (921.5 MHz for AU/NZ) – reliable communication even in blind or noisy environments.
• Simple and durable design – pairing lights confirm readiness before every lift.
• Industry-first innovation – setting a new benchmark for control measures and crane PPE.
With crane safety under more focus than ever, adopting The Buddie System not only reduces risk but also demonstrates leadership in safety culture.

RESCUE EQUIPMENT - Auto Descender

When emergency evacuation or escape from heights is required, this can be achieved with ease using an Automatic Descender. Once attached to the unit, a person can be lowered to the ground safely without the concern of having to operate any equipment.

The Automatic Descenders are easy to use and require little knowledge to operate. Once the unit is set up on an anchor point, it is then a simple matter of attaching the double action safety hook to a full body harness. Once attached, the device controls the descent of the person at a safe speed. The descent speed is 0.8m per second.

• The Automatic descenders we have in stock comes standard with either 15m, 30m or 60m of rope which can be changed to any length up to a max of 160m.

• The units are multi-directional with hooks on both ends of the rope. When multiple escapes are required, as one person is descending, the second hook coming up to the top level should be used by the next person. • The MRG 9 HUB version of the descender includes a rewind handle and can be used to raise a person. This is extremely valuable when a person that has fallen needs to be recovered quickly. The MRG 9 HUB is anchored above the suspended person and the hook quickly lowered to them to attach to the front loops of their harness. The rescuer then engages the rewind handle and raises them sufficiently to release the load on their fall arrest lanyard. Once the load has been released the rescuer can then set the device to automatic descent and the suspended person is safely lowered to the ground. To recover a suspended person, the ideal is to not add risk to the rescue. These devices reduce the risk to both the rescuer and the rescuee.
