Timaru Fire Brigade
Timaru Fire Brigade operates two career stations in Timaru and Washdyke, protecting South Canterbury.
Our crews respond from Maheno in the south to the Lindis Pass, across the Mackenzie Basin up to the Rakaia River with our specialist appliances.

FENZ leadership continues to fail our members and the public. Rather than working to avert strike action, FENZ tabled an insulting offer—while their bargaining lead, DCE People Janine Hearn, didn't even show up to the table.
We stand strong together this week:
🚨 Tomorrow (Wednesday) @ 12pm
🚨 Friday @ 12pm
It’s time for FENZ "leadership" to take accountability and respect frontline staff.

🚌⚡ EV MyWay Bus Familiarisation
This morning, Green Watch Timaru and the Washdyke crew visited Ritchies Buses to get a closer look at the electric MyWay buses operating in our area.
The visit focused on understanding the location of the EV battery systems, isolation points and other key components of the vehicles.
Having this knowledge and familiarity with the buses is incredibly valuable for our crews. Should we ever be called to an incident involving one of these vehicles, whether it’s a fire or motor vehicle accident, having a good understanding of the battery system layout and isolation points will help us assess the situation and operate safely.
A big thanks to the team at Ritchies for taking the time to show our crews around and help build our knowledge of these vehicles.
🚒 FLEET FRIDAY | TIMARU 8011
As we head into the warmer summer months, and with El Niño conditions predicted, our tanker could be a particularly busy appliance.
So, we thought we'd give you a quick introduction to Timaru 8011.
💧 Capacity: 5,800 litres of water
🚿 Spray bars: Front and rear (controlled from the cab)
8011 is predominantly used for water supply, providing water to our pumping appliances at both structure fires and vegetation fires, particularly in areas where there is no reticulated water supply — such as fire hydrants.
Stay turned for more like this, have a safe and happy weekend.

🚒 A day at the fire station! 👩🚒👨🚒
We recently had a school group visit the fire station to get a closer look at what we do and what life is like for our firefighters.
The kids got to check out the fire appliances, have a look at some of our equipment, learn about fire safety and ask plenty of questions along the way! 🔥🚒
It’s always great having our local schools visit the station and giving the next generation an insight into what we do in our community.
Thanks for coming along — we hope you enjoyed your visit as much as we enjoyed having you! 👨🚒

☀️ Summer’s on the way, and daylight saving is tonight!
When you put your clocks forward one hour, take a minute to check your smoke alarms too. ⏰🚨
Test them, make sure they’re working.
It only takes a minute — but it could save a life.

THORNDON’S AERIAL CAUGHT FIRE. HQ SENT A WATER CART.
When Thorndon’s ladder truck caught fire on Saturday night, FENZ replaced it with... a water cart.
Deputy Stiffler told a Parliamentary Inquiry that replacement trucks carry a 14m ladder as mandated by a "national procedure"—a procedure so top-secret that no one can actually find it.
Pictured: Firefighters searching for anywhere to house a 14m ladder on a water cart. Spoiler: they can’t.
While FENZ spends hundreds of thousands on PR consultants, lawyers and overseas trips, the frontline is left dealing with fairy-tale policies.
50,000 New Zealanders have had enough of the spin.
