A great few days spent at Waihaha Hut in the Pureora South Block on the western side of Lake Taupō.

Alongside a small team — Jason Peed from Taihape, Joseph Turner from Cambridge, and Regan Richards from Redi Plumbing in Hamilton — we spent 3 full days and 2 half days carrying out some much-needed maintenance.

The work included:
🔨 Rebuilding the hut steps
🧹 Cleaning the hut
🎨 Repainting the internal floor and the entire exterior
🧼 Clearing the spouting
🔥 Installing a new fireplace
🪵 Repairing areas of cladding that needed attention

Great to be able to help keep these backcountry huts in good shape for everyone who enjoys them.

A big thank you as well to the team at Rotorwork Otorohanga for the flights and helicopter support getting us in and out — hugely appreciated.

🌿 Volunteer Opportunity – Backcountry Hut Work 🌿

We’re looking for keen volunteers to help with general maintenance and repairs on backcountry huts for the Backcountry Trust. This is a great chance to give back, build skills, and spend time in some incredible places.

📍 Upcoming Trips:
• Pourangaki Hut (Ruahines)
🗓 9–13 March

• Waihaha Hut (Pureoras)
🗓 2–6 March

🔨 What you need to know:
• This is a volunteer role
• Food is provided
• Flights into the hut are supplied
• Transport to the fly-out meeting point can be arranged
• Basic building experience preferred

Wrap up from Rotorua North Island Stockcars qualifying night 28th December 2025.

Qualifying night came in two nights, unfortunately the first night the rain won.

Sunday night was wicked.

Race 1 - Grid 20 finish 13th
Race 2 - Grid 10 finish 5th
Race 3 - Grid 1 finish 1st

The final night will be in January and there is a great line up of cars.
