Plenty of smiles to be had when you get to ride one of your favourites in the mornings!

I’ll Be Home Soon, or Charm as he’s known around the stable, and Papu have formed a great connection. They work so well together, and it’s lovely to watch.

By Charm Spirit out of a Zabeel mare, Charm can be quite a sprightly character at times, so keeping him relaxed, settled and happy in his work is always our main aim — and as you can see, Papu has certainly achieved that!

He’s a lovely horse to have around the stable and we feel he’s really developed during his winter break. He’s come back into work looking bigger, stronger and more furnished, but just as pleasing is how much he’s matured mentally.

We’re really happy with how he’s progressing and looking forward to seeing what this preparation brings.

Hello Youmzain x Lady Krovanh 2YO Filly

Our lovely 2YO filly has now completed her breaking-in process and we couldn’t be happier with how she’s handled everything so far.

She’s been working nicely around the big track and has taken everything in her stride. She’s still got plenty of growing, furnishing and filling out to do, so she’ll now head out to the paddock for a well-earned break and hopefully enjoy plenty of sunshine!

Being bred to get over a bit of distance, there’s certainly no rush with her and we’re happy to give her all the time she needs to develop.

With the Hello Youmzain progeny really firing on both sides of the Tasman, we’re very pleased to have this girl in the stable and look forward to seeing what the future holds for her.

Fabulous Gal

Fabulous Gal has returned for her new campaign and has been back with us for around a month now, after spending some time on the water walker.

It’s really pleasing to see how well she has held her condition this time in. She’s a very big girl who has unfortunately been plagued by a few little niggles throughout her racing career, so keeping her happy, sound and enjoying her work is always our priority.

We mix up her routine with trackwork, treadmill sessions and swimming, which seems to suit her really well and keeps plenty of variety in her programme.

She’s coming along nicely, and hopefully we can keep everything heading in the right direction and pick up another few wins with her fantastic ownership group this campaign.

Avondale Trials 24 09 2026 Heat 18 24/09/2026

We had the one trialler at Avondale this afternoon, and he certainly made it a worthwhile trip!

Heat 18 — Akehurst 🥇 | Warren Kennedy

Having just his second trial, Akehurst put it all together very nicely this afternoon. Settling second-to-last over the 1200m, he worked his way into the race before finishing off strongly to score a lovely trial win.

A 4yo gelding by Tarzino, Taz has simply needed time to mature, and it was great to see that patience rewarded today. He’s a lovely horse who we have always held in high regard, and being a half-brother to our wonderful galloper Hiflyer makes him that little bit more special to us.

We’re very privileged to train him for Cambridge Stud and grateful for the patience they have shown in allowing him the time he’s needed.

Taz will now head to the races, and we’re really looking forward to seeing him make his raceday debut.

TE AROHA RESULTS

We had two runners today on the final day of the Jumps Carnival at Te Aroha, and both gave us plenty to be pleased about.

Race 3 – Ytoa – 2nd
Lemmy Douglas

Super happy with Ytoa today. Stepping sharply from 1200m up to 1600m and carrying the big weight, he stuck to his task really well and found the line strongly.

For only his second race-day start, it was another very encouraging effort and he looks to have a nice future ahead of him as he gets up over further.

We’ll see how he comes through the next few days, but he may head out for a few weeks in the paddock before we see him step out again.

Race 7 – Zeffert – 5th
Lemmy Douglas

We’ve only recently acquired Zeffert, so we were really pleased with his effort today, finishing 5th and beaten just 4.4 lengths.

It was a huge turnaround from his previous outing, where he was beaten 24 lengths. He’s certainly a quirky horse, but we seem to be getting on top of those little quirks and he’s already a very different horse from the one that first arrived.

As long as he keeps progressing in the right direction, we think another win won’t be too far away. A step up in trip should also play right into his hands, with his breeding suggesting 2000m and beyond will suit him nicely.

A massive thank you to our wonderful team for their continued hard work and dedication to our horses. We’ve got some lovely horses coming through, and none of it would be possible without the team behind them.

HOW COOL IS THIS!

Today we got to see our very own Badgeringdawitness lead in a winner at Ellerslie!

After completing his very first trial day at Ellerslie on Tuesday even having to catch one, today marked another big milestone — his first official race day in his new career.

And by all reports, Badger was an absolute legend throughout the entire day, taking everything in his stride like the good boy we know he is.

As trainers and owners, there’s something pretty special about seeing one of your former racehorses go on to find a new purpose after racing. To see Badger looking so happy and already doing such a wonderful job makes us incredibly proud.

From racehorse to clerk of the course… we think Badger has found himself a pretty cool new career!

We’ll definitely be following along with his journey — and we have a feeling you’ll be seeing plenty more of him around the racecourses in Auckland.

Swim Club 🏊‍♂️🐎

Reggae Man, Pick of the Litter, Zeffert and Ytoa enjoying their afternoon swim. 💦

Swimming is such a great tool to add into a horse’s training routine. It gives them a really good cardiovascular workout while taking the concussion and pressure off their legs and joints.

It’s great for building fitness and stamina, while also encouraging them to use their whole body — helping strengthen their back, core and hindquarters. It can also be a really useful option for horses that need a bit of variety in their routine or a lower-impact day between their trackwork.

We love being able to mix things up with our horses and keep them fit, happy and enjoying their work.

Safe to say the afternoon swim club is pretty popular! 💦

Zeffert working nicely around the track this morning.

He’s been a bit of a work in progress, but we’re very happy with how far he’s come in the short time we’ve had him. He’s really settled into his new routine and seems to be enjoying his work.

He heads to Te Aroha on Sunday for his first start for the stable, lining up in a Rating 60 Highweight over 1400m. We have top jumps jockey Lemmy Douglas on board, which should be a big help to him.

We’ve got Zeffert looking super, he’s eating really well and his work at home has been very pleasing. It’s up to him now to decide whether he wants to put it all together on raceday!

Fingers crossed for all his connections that he can put his best hoof forward on Sunday 🤞🏼
