Almighty Kick
(6YO G Deep Field x Star Flight)

Chester is getting close to heading back to the trials and has been working really well at home.

He’ll head to the jumpouts next week for a nice hit-out before progressing on to the Matamata trials, all going well.

He’s come back in great order following a short let-up and we’ve been really pleased with how he’s progressing through this preparation.

We’re looking forward to seeing him back out on the track and, hopefully not too far away, making his first raceday appearance here in New Zealand.

Exciting to have Chester getting closer!

Ahoy ⚓️
(5YO G Belardo x Artania)

Bobby’s officially made it out onto the track!

After successfully completing his build-up and slow work on the treadmill, we introduced a little faster work to prepare him for the next stage of his preparation. He’s handled everything like an absolute champ and is now ready to gradually increase his workload out on the track.

He’s a lovely big horse with a beautiful action, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what he might have under the bonnet.

Bobby is genuinely untried as a 5-year-old. After being broken in, we made the decision to give him plenty of time, spending the best part of three years in the paddock to grow, strengthen and develop into his big frame.

There’s been absolutely no rush with this boy, and so far he’s rewarding us with how well he’s handling everything we ask of him.

Now comes the exciting part — finding out what ability he has.

Hopefully a little patience goes a long way.

Foxton RC Trials 01 09 2026 Heat 1 01/09/2026

Foxton Trials | Tuesday 1st September

Heat 1 – Open 850m
Magniac – 4th | Leah Hemi

Magniac had his first official trial back after a year off the racing scene this morning.

While the 850m was always going to be too short for him, he had a really nice hit-out and did everything right. It was exactly what we wanted from him at this stage, and he’ll take plenty of improvement from the run.

He’ll have another trial over a bit further before we look to head back to the races.

Another positive step forward for Joey.

MAGNIAC ✨

Magniac looking an absolute treat after his work and a shampoo this morning. 🧼🐴

He heads to Foxton tomorrow for a nice, quiet trial on what should be a lovely surface to kick off his New Zealand racing campaign.

He hasn’t raced for a very long time, so he’ll definitely need this hit-out, but we have to start somewhere with him. Tomorrow is simply about giving him a good experience, blowing out a few cobwebs and building from there.

We’re really happy with where he’s at and looking forward to getting his campaign underway. 🤞🏼

Magniac having a nice quiet trot on the treadmill this morning after his jumpout at Matamata yesterday.

It’s a great way to tick him over, keep his body moving and get some work into him without putting any extra pressure on his legs.

He’s come through yesterday really well and continues to be in a happy place with his work. 🙌🏼

Magniac update

Magniac headed to the jumpouts at Matamata this morning as he builds towards his first New Zealand trial next week.

Ridden by Niranjan Parmar, he jumped away well and galloped strongly through the line alongside his mate. We’ve tinkered with a few gear changes since he joined us and feel like we’ve found what suits him best so far.

Most importantly, we’ve got him in a really happy mindset. He’s enjoying his work, seems settled in his new routine and is doing everything we’re asking of him.

He’s a horse with plenty of ability, so hopefully we can keep him happy and enjoying what he does when the pressure starts to go on again.

Another positive step forward, and we’re looking forward to seeing him at the trials next week.

Thanks to Robyn for getting some pictures for me from the gap this morning.

Happiest of birthdays to my wonderful little team of horses! 🎉

Every one of you brings your own personality and determination to the stable, and I couldn’t be prouder to have you all.

Here’s to another year of good health, plenty of treats, and making more incredible memories together. I’m so excited for the new season and can’t wait to see what it has in store for us.

Hip hip hooray!

Magniac (Joey) got his fresh clip this afternoon, followed by a lovely hot wash under the heaters and, of course, his favourite Equissage treatment. 🫶🏼

Safe to say he’s one very happy boy! Looking and feeling a million dollars as he continues to build towards the trials. 💪🏼🐎

Some mornings just remind you why we do this. ❤️

Our two beautiful Hong Kong boys, Magniac (brown) and Almighty Kick (chestnut), are absolutely loving life here in New Zealand.

This morning they enjoyed their work before settling in for a well-deserved pamper session, complete with plenty of cuddles and a kiss from the team. 🥰 It’s moments like these that show the special bond between our staff and the horses.

I’m incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work with such genuine, kind-natured horses every day. Seeing them happy, healthy and thriving is what it’s all about.

At Lock Racing, they’re more than racehorses—they’re part of the family. ❤️🐴

Which one would you be taking home… Magniac or Almighty Kick? 👇
