There are some books I read for the story, and there are others that quietly change the way I look at the people around me. Theo of Golden by Allen Levi belongs to the second kind.
I didn’t expect this book to make me slow down and pay more attention to the little things. As I followed Theo’s journey, I found myself thinking about how easily we move through our days without noticing the people who might need a little kindness, a little patience, or simply someone willing to listen.
What stayed with me most was the reminder that a meaningful life is not always built through grand achievements. Sometimes it is built through ordinary moments. A conversation with a stranger. A small act of generosity. Showing up when someone needs you. Giving someone the dignity of being seen and heard.
Theo made me think about the people I have crossed paths with over the years. Some stayed in my life. Others were only there for a brief moment. Yet even the briefest encounters can leave something behind. A lesson. A memory. A change in perspective.
I also loved the way the book explores faith, friendship, compassion, and the unexpected ways people can become part of one another’s stories. It reminded me that we often have no idea what someone else is carrying behind the version of themselves they show the world.
There were moments when I found myself putting the book down just to think about what I had read. Not because the story was complicated, but because its simplicity carried so much weight.
By the time I reached the end, I felt less interested in asking whether I had read a great story and more interested in asking myself a different question:
Am I paying enough attention to the people around me?
That is what Theo of Golden gave me.
It reminded me that kindness does not have to be loud to be powerful, and that sometimes the smallest gesture can become a significant moment in someone else's life.
I closed this book with a warmer heart than I had when I opened it.
And honestly, those are the books I treasure most. The ones that don't simply entertain me, but quietly encourage me to become a little more thoughtful, a little more present, and a little kinder.
If you enjoy books about faith, human connection, unexpected friendships, and the beautiful ways ordinary people can touch one another's lives, Theo of Golden is one I would happily recommend.
