Our winner from our last competition brought herself and her whānau out for a ride today to celebrate Mother’s Day πŸ’
Left the kids at home and came for some much-needed soul time β€” and what an awesome day it was!

Such a cool, down-to-earth group of mums to have out riding. Lots of laughs, good chats, and even better memories made 🐴🀍

Days like this really fill your cup. Watching mums take a moment for themselves, relax, laugh, and just enjoy being present was so special.

Thank you guys for spending part of your Mother’s Day with us. We absolutely loved having you all out here! ✨

And to all the mums out there β€” Happy Mother’s Day 🀍
Thank you for everything you do, the love you give, and the strength you carry every single day. We hope today reminded you just how appreciated and valued you truly are πŸ’

I’ve trained a few horses and ponies over the years β€” some naughty, some scared β€” and I’ve had the privilege of producing some really amazing horses and ponies. I’ve ridden some incredible horses, but one of the most special journeys was starting a wild Kaimanawa under saddle. Watching her slowly learn to trust me, and now seeing kids and adults of all levels riding her with confidence and joy, is one of the best feelings in the world.

But over the last 3.5 years, I’ve had an experience completely different again β€” raising and producing a foal from the very beginning. A complete blank canvas. Being there when he was born, handling him from just days old, teaching him to trust, to learn, and to grow beside me… it’s been something truly special. It’s challenged me, taught me patience, and reminded me why I love doing this so much.

Usually I’m fixing problems or undoing mistakes someone else has made, but with him there was nowhere to hide. If something went wrong, it came back to me β€” something I did, didn’t do, rushed, or missed. It made me slow down, listen more, and really build every step properly. No shortcuts, just time, consistency, trust, and a whole lot of heart.

Putting those first rides on him has been one of the proudest and most emotional feelings I’ve ever experienced. To look back at this tiny foal I watched come into the world, and now see the horse he’s becoming, is honestly hard to explain. It’s made me realise this is what I truly love doing. It’s given me confidence in myself, and made me excited to do it all over again one day.

Watch this space though β€” we still have so much learning ahead of us. For now, I’ve still got to be patient before I can put some real miles on him. He’s still just a baby, still growing, and there’s no rush. Good horses take time, and he’s worth every second of it.
