Redwood

80-100+ Redwood logs x3 - 2 of were hollow. This log is 5m long 25-45cm wide 50mm thick.
I'd salvaged them from Frontier Estate while the land was being cleared, this log had remnants of an old Bee colonys hive in the top end and I was told they were monitored for Bat inactivity before being felled. I believe our NZ grown Redwood typically out grow them selves being limited in life span compared to when grown in there native American climate. As an arborist I'm generally reluctant to remove significant trees and offer other alternatives and have talked potential clients out of having done so in the past and has been upsetting at times but the decisions made for these trees were non of my business and were in serious decline so was inevitable and made well before I had an opportunity to salvage what little I could. It's almost romantic to think they could end up in the homes where these trees once grew.
