Dune Planting 31 May 2026
Join Greater Wellington, Masterton District Council, and the Riversdale Beach Community Association for a day planting natives into the dunes to protect our coastal areas.
This traditional planting helps to secure our first defence for the beach: the dunes.
This event has been taking place since the year 2000. You can see the benefit of these grasses especially from the surf club down to Acacia and the Northern and Southern Dunes.
The grasses survive the sea water and send long tendrils down the dunes, and don't die off like the Marram grass.
Greater Wellington has secured the plants so come join in if you can spare some time.
See you there!

Keep our beaches beautiful
Use signposted beach accessways and respect the dunes.
Posts are clearly visible from the beach to find your way back to the road.
Vehicles are banned on access ways to the beach and dune areas and only allowed on the beach in permitted driving and boat launching areas (North and South of houses).
This includes two-wheeled and off-road motorbikes.
