FARMHOUSE RULES
One farmer is not every farmer
Here on the LIC page, we’re fostering a community that is essentially the backbone of New Zealand. Each farm is as unique as are the people and the cows that live on it. And that’s the beauty about farming. Everyone has their own tips and tricks that makes their farm a bit special but collectively we’re all working towards the same goals.

“I put my name forward because I wanted a genuine farmer voice in how LIC delivers to its members”
Ben Smith, LICs Shareholder Representative Group chair, encourages shareholders to have their say in their co-operative and share their experience. If you’re interested in contributing to LIC’s future direction and representing your region, we’re seeking six members to join our Shareholder Representative Group.
Nominations close 4pm, Friday 19 June 2026: https://www.lic.co.nz/shareholders/lic-elections/

This World Milk Day, we’re celebrating just how powerful a sample of milk can be.
Using milk samples for herd testing has over 100 years of history in NZ. It started in 1909, when cows were first tested for butterfat using a self-sampling system. By 1936, herd testing had grown enough to form the Herd Recording Council, and in 1967, records became fully computerised.
Today, the idea is still the same: milk gives you valuable information. As part of a normal herd test, you can get a range of animal health and diagnostic tests carried out on your cows without the invasiveness, time or hassle of additional testing.
We can carry out all of these tests on a herd test sample:
• Milk pregnancy testing
• Johne’s testing
• BVD testing
• Mastitis Multiplex PCR testing
• A2/A2 testing
In addition, herd testing also provides production information and somatic cell count data to support breeding, culling and dry off decisions.
More than just awards - it’s the people, the laughs, and the pride behind them 💛 Here’s a little BTS from Breeders Day 📸
