For Hamilton Pride, we have invited queer and takatāpui storytellers to take the stage in proud partnership with Pecha Kucha Hamilton. From the Japanese word for ‘chit chat’ Pecha Kucha celebrates the unique stories we all have to tell. Pecha Kucha Nights give a platform to a wide range of people, to speak on a diversity of topics. Ben Paris aka Batman

Ben Paris worked for the Waikato Regional Council bringing tūī, back to suburban Hamilton, then co-lead the formation of Project Echo, after developing a love of the pekapeka-tou-roa. 🦇

Moving to Auckland, he has helped kick start a bat awareness movement & helped develop pest free communities to protect Pekapeka & other native species across the city.

Hailing from the UK, by day he's a Professor of Environmental Planning, with a passion for making better cities. By night, despite being terrible at art - he's Chair of Hamilton Arts Trust (AKA Boon) - which happens to be the topic of his presentation.

He'll tell us how a conversation sparked nearly 100 murals in the city!

Lora Thompson

Lora is a bit of a local legend, being one of the very few female sound and tech in Hamilton, Kirikiriroa....even NZ! For her day job she Head of Audio at SAE teaching students everything about music production.

She also regularly performs with her band The Sour, which features some of NZ finest musicians. They are currently recording with another NZ legend Ladyhawke. Locally Lora also plays with her band Empress who regularly support touring acts.

She even fits time to build guitars pedals and telephones mics at Ritual FX and make Tiktok vids about the builds! Phewww!

But Lora has a side hobby if you will and it involves trash in all its obscure beauty!

Lisa Perrott

Lisa is author of the renowned book 'David Bowie and the Art of Music Video' (Bloomsbury Academic, 2023) – the first book to provide a scholarly analysis of Bowie's music video through out the artist's iconic career.

Lisa is also Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato with her research centering of the relation between music, sound and image and the remediating propensities of audio-visual mediums. She has interests in popular music, artistry, indigenous modes of storytelling and representation inform her research and teaching across the fields of documentary, animation, transmedia storytelling, and media and cultural studies.
