Don't let common chores cause or amplify pain and injury: 🍂 Embrace autumn's beauty, but be mindful of hidden hazards in those fallen leaves. Raking can strain your back and joints if not done mindfully. Learn techniques to keep the joy in gardening without compromising your well-being.
1- Keep your rake work close to your feet and avoid overreaching. Move your feet lightly, shifting with soft knees to prevent twisting your low back discs. Feet glued to the ground is a Chiropractor's holiday money.
2- Work across your body left to right and vice versa to avoid long reaching. Rake into rows, then mounds. Take your time. Enjoy the autumn air.
3- Over-gripping with the index finger and thumb can lead to significant wrist and elbow problems. Instead, keep your thumb and index finger floating (touching but not gripping) on the rake handle. Opt for a grip using your middle, ring, and little fingers—your strongest gripping fingers. This allows your wrist to move with no strain.
4- Relax your diaphragm for proper breathing and engage your abs. Let your tummy go—breathe out when reaching far. It may feel strange, but it's beneficial. Happy raking! 🍁
