A little personal thought from me today…

Different generations, different age groups, different dress codes and different personalities , none of these should ever determine the value, experience or capability of a person.

The other day, I was mistaken for being very young and, apparently, someone with very little life experience. 😂

In actual fact, I just have really good skincare products! 🤣

But what was interesting was that once my age was mentioned, the conversation immediately changed. Suddenly, there was a different level of respect and perception of my experience.

It got me thinking about recruitment.

How often do we make assumptions about someone before we've actually taken the time to get to know them?

A candidate isn't always their CV. They're not always the clothes they wear, the generation they belong to, the way they present themselves, or even the confidence they have when they walk through the door.

Sometimes the person sitting in front of you has years of experience, incredible resilience and a strong work ethic , but they don't always recognise or know how to communicate their own value.

And I think this is where being a Recruitment Consultant becomes so much more than simply matching a CV to a job.

Sometimes we need to be a motivator, a sounding board and even a little bit of a life coach.

We need to take the time to ask questions, listen to the story behind the CV and help people see the skills and achievements they may have overlooked themselves.

Because hard work isn't always written neatly on a piece of paper.

Sometimes it's in the long hours, the challenges overcome, the jobs that were just turned up and done, the lessons learned, and the achievements that never made it onto a CV.

Funny enough, as I write this, I think about all the times I've probably been judged at face value myself.

Maybe we all have.

So, my reminder for today is simple:

Don't judge the cover. Take the time to read the book.

You might just find there's a whole lot more experience, determination and capability inside than you first thought. ❤️
