So, there's this trick where a magician cuts a person in half. And people watch it and gasp, like it's somehow impressive that a human body can be split into two without... you know... dying. I don't get it. I can't even get my toast out of the toaster without it going on fire, and these people are pretending to hack other people up. It's amazing. Or horrifying. Probably both. measuring twice and cutting once… it’s very important, like trying to catch a cloud with a fishing net, or juggling spaghetti in a hurricane. If you measure something once, you might think it’s the right size, but it could be completely wrong, like trying to fit a giraffe into a teacup. And when you cut it… well, you can always make it shorter, but making it longer is like trying to unburn toast or teach a rock to swim. So measuring twice is mostly about looking clever, like a cat wearing spectacles, while secretly knowing your wood—or fabric, or whatever—is probably going to end up more abstract art than useful object.
