"I’m Kane Wharepouri, founder and director of LPR Collective Ltd. My son Anaru and I work together developing creative technology including VR, games, interactive media and digital software. A major focus of our work is bringing Māori stories, culture and knowledge into modern technology while creating new ways for people to experience, learn and interact with them.
At ArtBeat, we’ll be showcasing three LPR Collective projects: our open-world game, the Pepeha App, and Te Marae mō Āpōpō, our VR marae experience.
Visitors will be able to explore the open-world game, see how the Pepeha App helps people learn and build their pepeha, and experience Te Marae mō Āpōpō through virtual reality.
This will be hands-on. Visitors will be able to try the game, explore the Pepeha App, experience the VR marae, and talk with us about how we use technology for culture, storytelling, education and interactive experiences."

We’re heading to Auckland.
LPR Collective is looking forward to visiting the New Zealand School of Tourism to present our Pepeha App and share how digital tools can support people in exploring identity, whakapapa and place.
Pepeha App helps people explore the relationships, people and places that shape their pepeha through a guided digital experience.
We’re looking forward to demonstrating the app, hearing feedback and continuing the development of Māori-led digital technology.

Our new LPR Collective website is now live.
We’ve been working behind the scenes to create a home for LPR Collective and the projects we’re developing.
The new website gives an overview of who we are, what we’re working on, and our focus on deep-tech research and development.
It also gives us somewhere to share our projects as they grow, including Pepeha App, Te Marae o Āpōpō, and the other technology and creative work happening within LPR Collective.
There’s still more to come, but it’s great to finally have it live.

LPR Collective has been working on something that means a lot to us.
Te Marae o Āpōpō is a cultural learning project designed to help people who may feel nervous, disconnected or unsure about returning to a marae.
For some people, the hardest part is simply not knowing what to expect. Where do I go? What do I do? What if I get something wrong?
The idea behind the project is to give people a safe place to learn first.
Using VR, phones and gaming platforms, people will be able to explore, learn at their own pace and build confidence before stepping into the real environment.
This is not about replacing the real experience. It is about helping people feel prepared, supported and empowered enough to return in person.
What you’re seeing in this video is part of the prototype being developed by LPR Collective Limited in Unreal Engine.
LPR Collective is also using this work as supporting material for an MBIE research and development application, exploring how immersive technology could help make cultural learning more accessible, safe and meaningful.
The bigger question behind the project is simple:
Can technology help make that journey home easier?

Ngā mihi nui to Waikato-Tainui for inviting LPR Collective to be part of this special day with Māori business owners who whakapapa to Waikato-Tainui.
It was held at ANZ in Hamilton and it was a wonderful opportunity to connect, share kōrero, and meet people from all over the rohe.
Days like this matter. They remind us how much talent, knowledge, and drive exists within our own people, and how powerful it is when we come together to support Māori business and future opportunities.
