Save Board
Low Carbon Sustainable Building Materials made from everyday packaging.
Made in Australia & New Zealand; healthy, affordable, high performance, low carbon building materials that make a circular economy an everyday reality.
๐๏ธ Listen to a short snippet of this podcast where Paul Charteris, CEO & Founder of saveBOARD, joins the Talking Architecture & Design podcast alongside Zoe Schmidt from Adbri to tackle one of construction's most pressing questions: how do we rapidly reduce embodied carbon in the built environment, and which materials can realistically scale to get us there?
Paul breaks down how saveBOARD is doing exactly that: transforming difficult-to-recycle packaging waste into high-performance, low-carbon building materials, locally manufactured and circular by design.
Because the circular economy isn't a future concept. It's what we make every day.

The wall that you see could have been in your shopping bag last month. That's not a sustainability claim, its real, transparent and tangible.
Recycling only works when there is real demand for products made from recycled materials. That collection is now in 700 stores, and saveBOARD installed back 170x stores so far and counting.
If you're specifying materials for a retail or commercial fitout in ANZ, ask us what recycled content looks like in practice.

Plastic recovery from Australian construction sites: as low as 14%.
The other 86% is either landfill or what saveBOARD is made from.

Three in five UK councils planning to collect soft plastics say they can't find anywhere to send them.
You can't collect your way out of a plastics problem. You need products that actually use the material.
That's what saveBOARD does. Post-consumer soft plastics + food & beverage cartons turned into real building products, in real stores, in real buildings.

Half of all buildings that will exist in 2050 haven't been built yet.
The material choices being made right now will still be standing in 2070. That's the window we're working in.
Choosing circular building products with verified carbon savings isn't a premium option or a green experiment. It's a decision about what kind of building stock we're handing to the next generation.

When Jason Roberts from Happy Hire came to us wanting a custom yellow 2Faced board to match their brand colours, I have to admit I was pretty excited about this one.
This is the same 100% soft plastic board you'll find on the shelf at Bunnings Warehouse New Zealand, just with a custom yellow face to match Happy Hire's branding for their hire installations.
The boards are heading to the National Fieldays in the Waikato next week and I can't wait to see the finished installations on site once cut and made to suit their different applications. If you're heading along, keep an eye out for them.
Same recycled soft plastics, same performance, just customised to the customer. Every full sheet saves 25kg of soft plastics from landfill and can be used again and again being solid plastic and 100% water proof.
Thanks Jason for the brief. Looking forward to seeing them in the field.

We hear the same thing from architects and clients all the time:
It feels like a compromise you are forced to make. You want to do the right thing, however you want to stay on budget and not lose future work.

More and more projects are proving that sustainable materials don't have to sit at the premium end of the spec. The gap between what clients are asking for and what the numbers allow is closing.

โก๏ธ Specifying sustainable products doesn't automatically mean a cost premium anymore.
โก๏ธ Clients who ask for it early actually help the project, clearer brief, fewer late changes
โก๏ธ And when you can say yes to sustainable design while staying within budget question, that's a big win for your companies reputation.
We make high-performance, planet friendly products for people who actually build things at a price that makes sustainability the easy choice, not the expensive one.

One of the things I've learned over the past few years is that no company can solve complex waste challenges on its own.
Since 2024, saveBOARD has partnered with Kingspan Thermakraft to give their flexible underlay offcuts a second life. Instead of becoming waste, these materials are collected and recycled into our Multi-use panels to be used again on construction sites.
For saveBOARD it provides a reliable and clean stream of raw materials and
for Kingspan Thermakraft, it supports their goals of reducing onsite waste.
Without knowing it, you've probably seen the saveBOARD branding printed directly onto Kingspan Thermakraft's underlays, helping raise awareness of the recycling pathway available for these materials. In return, we're proud to promote Watergate Plus and tapes alongside our betterBRACE external bracing system.
The circular economy doesn't happen because products are recyclable. It happens when businesses collaborate to make sure those materials actually get collected, processed, and turned into something useful again. Saying something is theoretically '๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฐ๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ' is not a solution, you need demand to pull through so that material otherwise it ends up in landfill.
Next time you're walking around a construction site, keep an eye out for the saveBOARD logo on a roll of Watergate Plus. There's a good chance the offcuts from that very product could end up back on a building site.

Last week I was flying Sydney โ Melbourne out of Terminal 2 domestic. I havenโt flown from there in a while, and Iโll admit I got a bit confused when I talked to one of the customer service staff. I found out thereโs not one, but Four RELAY stores in the same terminal.
At first it seems like a lot. Most people are on a mission to their gate, so they donโt get to explore the full terminal, whereas I had the time to walk from one end to the other to find all the stores.
Hereโs the journey most people walk past every day without realising:
๐ The food & beverage cartons you returned at a container deposit scheme in Australia are in those walls.
โป๏ธ The soft plastics you dropped at the supermarket collection bin? Also in those walls.
๐ญ Heat. Pressure. Composite panels cut to length, ready to build.
๐ And anything left over? Straight back into the process. Circles beyond circles.
Most of us never connect what we put in recycling bins to the circular economy.
Next time youโre rushing to your gate, take a second look at whatโs around you. You might just be standing inside something you helped build. ๐
