Bateman publishes a wide range of non-fiction titles for the local and international markets and specialises in richly illustrated books with high production values. Between 25 and 30 new titles are issued each year, with around 250 titles kept in print. A key presence in the New Zealand publishing industry, Bateman has published over 600 books in the last 30 years.

An engaging, lively and thought provoking discussion tonight during the ‘Small towns, dark truths’ event with Catherine Lea, Zoe Rankin and Chris Blake expertly chaired by Fiona Sussman. Fascinating to find out what made these isolated towns such fertile grounds for these talented crime writers.

A brilliant session this morning listening to Emma Neale (Maybe Baby) and Elizabeth Easther discussing their new novels with Anna Rawhiti-Connell at the Auckland Writers Festival. Both novels offer a unique perspective on the lengths some of us might go to to bring a child into the world. Funny, moving, wonderful readings and a stimulating discussion. Also, check out the giant ‘Maybe Baby’ book sculpture in Aotea Square!
