I've just jumped in POD 2 this morning for a session. I started softball training last night with my pitching partner, Michelle. My body is a little older and requires help with recovery. We are working towards the PanPac games held in the Gold Coast in November.
Today's session will help clear out the lactic acid, boost the oxygen requirement for my muscles, and help with post-exercise soreness.

Why do we call a hyperbaric session a "dive"?
The term comes from the origins of hyperbaric medicine and the way pressure changes are experienced inside the chamber.
During a session, the chamber is gradually pressurised, much like descending underwater. As the pressure increases, you may notice your ears needing to equalise - similar to what scuba divers experience on a dive.
Once at treatment pressure, your body is exposed to increased atmospheric pressure and elevated oxygen levels. At the end of the session, the chamber is slowly depressurised, mirroring an ascent back to the surface.
So even though you stay dry and comfortable throughout the treatment, the treatment closely resembles the pressure changes of an underwater dive - which is why hyperbaric oxygen treatment sessions are commonly called "dives".
