We had an amazing day at the 2025 EVolocity Auckland Regional Finals, taking home the title of Overall Champions! 🏆

EVolocity Competition – Race Day!

Today we’re competing at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park Auckland in the Evolocity competition, where 33 teams from across the Auckland region are showcasing their electric innovations, representing both intermediate and high schools.

We’re proud to represent Northcross Intermediate with our electric go-kart, NX Horner, promoting sustainability and innovation in. 🌱🏎️

Over the past four months, our team has worked incredibly hard designing, building, and testing our kart — learning so much along the way. The journey has been challenging but deeply rewarding, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved together.

Rotax Max Challenge – Round 3 & Overall Series 🏆

Last weekend was the final round of the Rotax Max Challenge, and I finished 2nd overall in the series🥈.

It started off great — I took pole position in qualifying and felt really strong heading into the heats. Then the rain came, and after we changed the setup, the kart just didn’t have the power. Lap times dropped, and in heat two things went from bad to worse when we found an exhaust issue that was causing a big loss of engine power.

It was tough watching my lead and points advantage disappear as I dropped from the front of the field to the back in heat one and two. Once we fixed the issue, I managed to get my speed back for the super heat and final, but the lost points early on meant I had to settle for 2nd overall in the series.

It really showed how much racing depends on everything working perfectly together — the driver, the setup, and the engine.

Not the outcome I was hoping for, but lots of lessons learned. Every race, even the hard ones, makes you stronger and more ready for the next challenge.

Rotax Max Challenge – Round 2 🏁

Well overdue update, but the weekend marked some big achievements!

🎯 Matthew set a new Track Record at Kartsport Rotorua – 1:00:266 💥

Race Results
• Qualifying: P1
• Heat 1: P1
• Heat 2: P1
• Super Heat: P1
• Final: P2 (tyres were worn out after chasing that lap record 🤣)

Matthew picked up great points, showed consistent pace all weekend, and had some awesome battles on track.

Round 1 The NZ Rotax Max Challenge🥈

I did not know Kartsport Bay of Plenty track well so spent Friday and Saturday learning it and getting my head around it all. By race day, things really started to click.

Qualified P2, just 0.012s off P1.

Heat 1 – Finished P2 and managed to improve my PB lap time.

Heat 2 – Took the win (P1) and set the best lap time.

Super Heat – further improvement in my PB but made a mistake near the end and slipped back to P4. Lesson learned!

Final – Brought it home in P2 just 0.074 sec from P1 with another fastest lap.

The battles were intense with home track drivers Charlie Clarke Racing, Ryen Healey and Nico Thomasen.

Feeling really happy with how I drove, how much I learned, and how far we came from Friday to Sunday.

Big thanks to all who helped out and supported me last weekend. Looking forward to the next two rounds in Rotorua and Tokoroa.
