Whether your rider wants to develop their riding, experience camp life, spend a whole day with their favourite pony or brush up on their horse-management skills - we’ve got something for them! 💛

Easy ponies don’t make you a better rider. 👀

And before anyone jumps in - easy, kind, safe ponies are absolutely invaluable. Especially when you're learning, every rider deserves a horse that gives them confidence, teaches them the basics and makes them want to come back for more.
But eventually… an easy pony can only teach you so much.
If your pony always maintains the perfect rhythm, finds the distance to the jump, picks up the correct leads, stays perfectly balanced, ignores every distraction and rescues you when your position falls apart… are you actually learning to ride, or are you just learning to sit there while the pony does the work and building your ego 🙊

The best riders aren't the ones who can ride the easiest horses. They're the ones who have learned to create rhythm rather than rely on it, balance their horse, recognise when something is going wrong and fix it, ride every stride adapt when the horse doesn't give them the answer they expected, develop feel and communicate clearly rather than simply hoping the horse will figure it out. And this is why, at MRS, we're so passionate about solid foundations before then getting outside of our comfort zone and progressing.

We want our riders to have confidence but we also want them to develop the skills to eventually ride horses that need them to be a good rider.
Because the goal isn't to find a horse that makes you look like a brilliant rider. The goal is to become the rider who can make a good horse better. 🤎

Well I mean, the forecast did predict it for this afternoon and it was right for once 🤪 greatful for our lean to and loose box - all 8 horses and ponies in lessons today were able to come under shelter ❤️

You've had a couple of canters and learned your basic two point and you're ready to grow and develop your foundations further to the next exciting stage!

Tahi is back home 🥹

A bit earlier than planned from his baby sitting stint due to his health taking a bit of a turn in the last couple of weeks... so he's home for some bloods to be drawn and an extra close eye on him for the next little while. A few years ago we thought we were going to lose him following a similar stint and a cancer diagnosis - he then bounced back and has been a picture of health. He's done well for 30 years old. Hopefully he can repeat it this time too ❤️‍🩹

It’s not aesthetic (except for the filter, which reminds me of flying at night on Air NZ 😂) but this is the reality of life at the moment - just an exhausted mum juggling running a business.... BUT that business has just cracked ten years old today! 🎉🥳🍾

Thank you to everybody who has supported us over the last decade. What started as a dream turned side hustle is now a very full-time business, which is also our home.

We’ve had amazing times, met a lot of phenomenal people, built a fantastic team, lost some, had some really high highs, and some even lower lows. We’ve celebrated huge wins, cried over some pretty heartbreaking losses, worked ridiculous hours, made mistakes, learnt A LOT, and somehow kept going.
There have been moments where I’ve wondered what on earth I was doing, moments where I've thought that that term was going to be our last, and moments where I’ve looked around and thought, holy crap… I actually built this. 🥹

Ten years ago, I certainly didn’t picture the business looking quite like this. I didn’t know it would become such a huge part of our family, our home and our lives. I didn’t know how many people and horses would become part of our story.
And I definitely didn’t realise how much sacrifice, blood, sweat, tears, hay, mud, vet bills and coffee would be involved. 😂 but I wouldn’t change it.

To every rider who has ever sat in a saddle here, every parent who has trusted us with their child, every friend who has lent a hand, every coach and team member who has helped make this place what it is, my fantastic part leasers, and every person who has cheered us on from the sidelines (hypothetical online or physically) - thank you. To my family and friends for supporting my dream always even when it means I'm always late, replying in 5 business days or missing catch ups or events. ❤️
