One of the best things about travelling by campervan is choosing a different view to wake up to each morning. From lakeside campsites in Canterbury, coastal spots up north, mountain scenery in Queenstown and peaceful DOC campgrounds throughout the country, New Zealand has plenty of places where you can make the morning part of the adventure.
No alarm clock, no morning commute, just a slow start and the freedom to decide where the day takes you. That’s the beauty of travelling by campervan, your accommodation comes with a view, and your plans can change whenever you feel like it.✨

Planning a campervan trip to Lake Tekapo? 🚐🏔️ One thing to know before you go is that while there are paid camping options in Tekapo itself, most of the freedom camping spots are located outside the township, around the wider Mackenzie Basin and nearby lakes.
For a paid stay, Lakes Edge Holiday Park is a convenient option close to the lake and township. If you’re looking for a freedom camping option, however, you’ll need to head further afield, as freedom camping within Lake Tekapo is restricted and designated areas have specific rules to follow.
Many of the nearby freedom camping spots are for certified self-contained vehicles only, with facilities generally limited to things like drop toilets and picnic areas. The trade-off? Some pretty incredible locations, from lakeside spots overlooking Lake Pukaki to peaceful camping around Lake Opuha, with mountain views and some seriously impressive night skies. 🌌
If you’re heading through the area, take a little time to plan where you’ll stay rather than assuming you can pull up anywhere for the night. Always check the local camping rules, use designated areas and help keep these beautiful spots clean for the next traveller.

🇳🇿 NZ must-do: Milford Sound! 🌿⛰️
When you’re exploring New Zealand, Milford Sound needs to be on your list! From towering mountains and dramatic waterfalls to the epic scenery around every corner, it’s a place that feels straight out of a movie. 🚐✨
Milford Sound is a 4 hour scenic and winding drive from Queenstown and located in the Fiordland National Park.
There are plenty of scenic stops along the way and camping in Te Anau or a DOC campgrounds in the park.
You’ll want bug spray for the sandflies and a camera for the view every way you look.
Hit the road and get ready for one of the most unforgettable adventures New Zealand has to offer.
