The secret is hidden inside the walnut.

I wanted this knife block to hold every knife securely while making them look like they’re floating between the layers—with no visible hardware.

Here’s the full build, from rough timber to the final oil finish.

The assembly process here, magnet inlay into each slots then glue them back again, the hardest part is actually align those slots while gluing, so I used screws not only for quick fixing but also reinforce the glue.

A customer order also a new product for me, seen quite few magnet knife holders, but this time I am making a solid magnet block from a walnut slab, eight slots with magnet inside, matching the grain, matching the colour.

Finally this board is done now. Again oil works really well on popping out beautiful wood grain.

The glue up is just like all other boards but as the live edge is not straight, can be a bit tricky to clamp

This may be one of the longest shelves I have ever made, and also took me the longest time to make. It’s not because it’s hard or tricky to make, just only because I ordered the wrong bit to do this job yet the right bit still not good enough to accomplish the job. Thanks for the understanding of the client, we finally decided to change the plan to a different approach.
Doing a project is sometimes also a learning process.

A bit of glue, a bit of hammer, and a bit of screws on the joints. I know the glue and the mortises would be strong enough to hold the arms, but just always like to double secure.
Hand plane and some re-shape of the ends, now we going to final finish.

I was inquired to make a walnut and oak high contrast board BUT with walnut live edge if possible.
My answer is yes no problem!
Luckily I usually keep some live edge off cuts

One solid walnut slab. Natural live edge. Rich grain. Every crack carefully filled with epoxy while keeping the timber’s character untouched.
