🇼🇸 Celebrating Samoan Language Week at TLL 🇼🇸
What a wonderful week we have had celebrating Samoan Language Week together!
Throughout the week, our tamariki have immersed themselves in a variety of meaningful experiences as we explored and celebrated Samoan culture together. We have explored the Samoan flag, created siapo- tapa cloth art, learnt about turtles and palm trees, shared stories and songs, learnt new words, made beautiful fans and ula fala, explored weaving, created flower artwork, made delicious panikeke, and even had a go at performing the Sāsā dance using rhythm, movement, clapping and body percussion.
One of the most special parts of the week has been watching our tamariki proudly sharing their knowledge, asking questions, making connections, and learning alongside one another. These experiences create opportunities for children to strengthen their understanding of themselves and others while developing respect, appreciation, and curiosity about the diverse cultures within our community.
At The Learning Lane, we love creating opportunities where children’s languages, cultures, and identities are visible, valued, and celebrated every day.
Fa’afetai tele lava to our tamariki and whānau for helping make this week so special.

🌱 Gardening at Kindy 🌱
With Matariki approaching, we have been busy brainstorming what we could plant in our edible garden. After creating our planting list and with lots of keen helpers ready to get involved, we spent today replanting not only our vegetable gardens but some of our flower gardens too.
We look forward to watching them grow, caring for them together, and being kaitiaki of our kindy garden.
There is something special about getting our hands dirty, working together, and learning where our food comes from.

🕸️ Nature's Master Builder 🕸️
What a beautiful discovery to start the day! Hidden away in our outdoor storage area, this incredible spider web was sparkling with morning dew, revealing the intricate patterns and engineering skills of one of nature's tiniest architects.
Moments like these remind us that learning opportunities are everywhere. By slowing down and taking notice, children develop curiosity, observation skills, and an appreciation for the natural world around them.
At The Learning Lane, we encourage tamariki to wonder, explore, ask questions, and discover the magic that can be found in the everyday.
Who made this web? How long did it take? Why are the droplets sitting on the silk? These are the kinds of questions that inspire rich conversations, scientific thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.

Today at TLL we celebrated Pink Shirt Day 💗
Together we spent time reading stories about kindness, friendship and including others. We talked about the many ways we can help and care for our friends and how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
The tamariki also enjoyed creating beautiful pink handprints as we came together to recognise this special day and spread an important message of kindness, respect and caring for one another.
Together we can continue to make TLL a happy, safe and caring place for everyone 🩷

The excitement was high this afternoon as Ryan and the library bus returned to TLL for another special visit.
The children loved exploring the shelves, choosing a book each to borrow, and learning all about how the library works. We can’t wait to enjoy our stories and return them at the next visit. Thank you Ryan for sharing the magic of books with us!

Happy Mothers day to all our amazing mums. We are excited for our special Mother's day breakfast at TLL tomorrow morning.
To finish off NZSL Week, we thought we’d share the alphabet with you all using NZSL 🤟
Our tamariki have really enjoyed exploring and practising their signs this week—what a wonderful way to support communication, inclusion, and connection. Thank you for following along with us!
Each day at kindy, as we sing our days of the week in English and te reo Māori and recognise what day it is, we love to include NZSL too.
Our tamariki have grown so confident using these signs as part of our daily routine, so today we thought we’d share the days of the week in NZSL with you.
New Zealand Sign Language is something we use every day here at TLL, and we love sharing it with our tamariki. With it being NZSL Week, we thought we’d share some of our favourites with you all!
We’re starting with our much-loved Brown Bear, Brown Bear story in NZSL. Keep an eye out for more videos and signs we enjoy using throughout the week
