Our Wild Book Week started off with a visit from NZ's own Katie Furze, an author who interweaves stories with non-fiction, centred on those special animals native to Aotearoa New Zealand. Great questions from our audience, like Eddie who wondered about the motivation for writing about specific animals. Katie explained that seeing the animals in their natural habitat (like the fur seals of Kaikōura) inspired her latest book, Kekeno.

🌳 Last Thursday was a beautiful autumn day for our Enviro Leaders to head out to Muriwai Valley to plant our native trees. They worked incredibly hard alongside our friends at Pasadena Intermediate, and together we planted 1280 trees! It was also really cool to see how much the trees we planted last year have grown too! 🌳

Fantastic to see our students sharing their learning with whānau today, at our Student Led Conferences. These are a valuable opportunity for our ākonga to reflect on their learning through explanation and self assessment. Critical thinking about learning processes contributes to them all becoming the life-long learners we strive for at Rangi-mata-rau 🌟

Vaia*o o le Gagana Samoa - Celebrate Samoa Language Week: 31 May - 6 June 2026
"E afua mai i mauga tetele, manuia o le nu'u" - From the high mountains come the blessings of the village. This theme highlights how language, strength, and identity are rooted in the community, elders, and past generations. 🇼🇸

📚 Privilege to host the Book Battle event today, with schools from throughout Central and West Auckland coming to compete. A great event with some challenging questions for our literary masters. Even though we didn't receive medals, the scores were super close and the teams collaborated well. Heartfelt congratulations to the two Ponsonby Intermediate teams for their deserved wins in the intermediate category.
Special thank you to 🏅Lisa our librarian🏅 for getting the event to come to fruition.

Lots of opportunities for our tamariki to play, create, innovate, connect with nature, and think deeply about sustainable issues during the J***y Monkeys play day, which started today with Rooms 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 15, 16, 21, 22, 28, 29 and 30. More fun to come tomorrow with the remainder of the school having their turn.
