A quick update on where things are at with Auckland Council's big housing plan (Plan Change 120) and what it means for the future of Hallyburton Johnstone Sports Club in Point Chevalier and our ongoing battle to keep the land for our community.

The Government has recently reduced the housing capacity Auckland is required to enable, and in response Auckland Council is now looking at two more conservative options for PC120 – called Scenario A and Scenario B. In simple terms, both of these focus extra housing around the city centre, major town centres and rapid‑transit/public transport routes, instead of the earlier "blanket" intensification approach across most suburbs.

https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/news/2026/06/two-scenarios-being-considered-for-potential-pc120-changes/

Why does that matter for us? Because under both scenarios there is less policy pressure to up‑zone land - like the land Hallyburton Johnstone gifted our club - for intensive housing, and more emphasis on protecting existing open spaces and community sports hubs where they aren't critical to the city's housing strategy. That shifts the overall policy climate in a direction that makes the Anglican Trust for Women and Children's push to rezone the site to residential harder to justify.

The process is still far from over - Council is only now deciding between these scenarios, and final recommendations are not expected until mid‑2027. Public submissions on the amended PC120 are expected to take place once Council agrees its preferred approach, likely in late July or early August, and will run for approximately four weeks.

We'll keep you updated as things progress, including when there are more opportunities for members and supporters to have their say.

Margi Watson~ Historic wall works - Carrington Hospital site.

As a condition of the resource consent for the Carrington Road Improvement project, Auckland Transport is required to deconstruct, move and re-build the historic wall on the new boundary line. This will be approximately 8 metres west of its current location.
The first stage of the work is to remove the vegetation to expose the brickwork. This will let them assess and photograph the bricks to plan the deconstruction and relocation.
This removal of the vegetation is due to commence on Monday 15 June.
