Did you know Pink® Batts® insulation is made using more than 80% recycled window glass, diverting over nine million kilograms of glass waste from landfill each year?

Our business, Comfortech is now taking another step forward in lower‑impact manufacturing. Through a new partnership with Lodestone Energy, 100% of the electricity used at our Penrose site will be matched with renewable energy generated from Lodestone’s solar farms.

Comfortech General Manager Anthony Stone says the move is both operationally driven and future‑focused.

“Switching to solar‑backed energy strengthens our commitment to leading lower‑impact manufacturing in our industry and responds to growing demand for more sustainable building materials,” Anthony says.

We are proud to support this next step and to be part of the future of manufacturing as it continues to evolve in New Zealand.

Anthony recently visited Lodestone’s Whitianga solar farm, Pāmu Rā ki Whitianga — pictured here with Lodestone Managing Director Gary Holden and the team.

Look around New Zealand building sites and you might see the bright purple of GIB® Weatherline® being installed.

Made by Fletcher Building business Winstone Wallboards, this product is designed for the most exposed phase of a build - before the cladding goes on. It uses a solid sheet that sits around the outside of a building and helps keep wind and rain out while work continues inside. That's possible thanks to its glass fibre outer sheet, protecting a fibreglass reinforced gypsum core.

This product is a great example of the Winstone Wallboards team's goal of creating products that make life easier for builders by helping to navigate complex regulations and deal with unexpected setbacks. In the case of GIB Weatherline®, the product allows a building process that’s more forgiving when timelines slip or the weather turns.

Some careers at Fletcher Building are measured not just in years, but in legacy. General Manager David Thomas is a perfect example, marking an extraordinary 50 years with the business.

David joined Fletcher Timber in Rotorua in 1976 as a young accountant with a simple plan - stay a few years, gain some experience, then move on. Half a century later, he’s still here.

Over 50 years, he built a career across multiple Fletcher businesses including PlaceMakers, Laminex New Zealand and as General Manager of GIB® (Winstone Wallboards), taking on a wide range of roles and experiences along the way.

His journey is a great example of what’s possible at Fletcher Building, where there is opportunity to grow, move across industries, and build a long and varied career within one organisation. But, As David reflects, it’s ultimately the people who make the difference.

Congratulations David on an extraordinary 50 years!

A crisp two-degree start didn’t deter 120 customers from gathering at PlaceMakers Riccarton to attend a trade breakfast alongside Prime Minister, The RT. Hon. Christopher Luxon on Friday.

Joined by National list MP Nancy Lu and Ilam MP Hamish Campbell, the Prime Minister gave a brief speech to the customers, who were invited by PlaceMakers Account Managers from across the city. He then took questions on issues affecting the construction sector, before chatting to the crowd one-on-one over bacon butties and coffee.

Christchurch Hub Manager Dale King, who oversees the city’s four PlaceMakers branches, said it was the first time a sitting Prime Minister had attended such an event. "I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to see the Prime Minister engaging with our customers on the issues that matter to them - including the opening of the new One New Zealand Stadium!"

High in the Southern Alps, a small hut is making a big impact. Two of our steel business, ColorCote and Dimond Roofing have partnered with the Backcountry Trust Aotearoa/New Zealand to rebuild Brass Monkey Hut, transforming a modest 1970s biv into a resilient, low-maintenance shelter for today’s trampers.

Built to withstand some of Aotearoa’s toughest conditions, the hut combines durable steel solutions with thoughtful design, including Dimond Corrugate roofing and flashings, ColorCote's pre painted steel, including ZinaCore™ roofing and cladding and MagnaFlow™ flashings.

From early sketches to helicopter lifts into remote alpine terrain, this project will ensure the hut can serve generations of back-country adventurers.

From the Beehive to Batts®! Today Hon Chris Penk MP, Minister for Building and Construction, took a tour of the Comfortech Building Performance Solutions® manufacturing facility, home of Pink® Batts® insulation.

The visit provided a chance for the Minister to see firsthand how this iconic kiwi product is made right here in New Zealand.

During his visit, the Minister toured the site alongside General Manager Anthony Stone, National Manufacturing Manager Murray Inwood, Chief Executive Fletcher Building Light Building Products Division Hamish McBeath and Fletcher Building Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Christian May, getting a firsthand look at our production process and the innovation behind it.

The team also took the time to meet some of the people who make it all happen - including Patrick Teisina, one of the business' Melter Operators who has recently celebrated an incredible 50 years of service. A milestone like that speaks volumes about the strength of our business and the people behind it.

We’re proud to be part of New Zealand's manufacturing story, delivering quality products and supporting local communities.

Small teams can create a big impact. 💪 Safety legends Winstone Wallboards (WWB) in Wellington have been recognised as the #1 safest WWB site across Fletcher Building in our Protect Safety Culture Maturity Index.

And it’s no accident.

This team has built a culture where safety is part of every decision. They keep a strong presence on the floor, look out for each other at all times, and aren’t afraid to speak up or call things out. They’ve redesigned how their site operates to reduce risks, prioritise safety in real time, and support each other through cross-training so no one is left exposed.

As they put it: “You can’t put safety on hold.”

It’s a great example of what happens when a team takes real ownership, not just of the work, but of each other.

Outstanding effort from the Wellington crew for setting the benchmark and congratulations on joining our league of safety legends! 👏

The Eastern Busway Project site has earned safety legend status! The Fletcher Construction site is officially Fletcher Building’s #1 safest across all our operational sites, based on our Protect Cultural Maturity Index.

This doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of a team that has gone beyond compliance and built something far more powerful - a culture where people genuinely look out for each other. A place where teams look out for each other, frontline voices are heard, and everyone goes home safe, every day.

This isn’t about ticking boxes or chasing metrics. From empowering crews through initiatives like Power Up, to strong safety leadership and a relentless focus on critical risk - this team has set the benchmark.

Huge credit to Matt Zame, Sheena Hodge, and the entire Eastern Busway team for raising the bar for what great safety looks like in our industry.
