PROGEAR SPOTLIGHT: Zeiss Ikon Nettar II 517/16
Produced between 1951-57, the Zeiss Ikon Nettar II 517/16 is a charming medium-format camera with some old-school quirks.
While Nettar cameras were originally advertised for the amateur photographer, they share many parts with the more expensive Ikonta range and provide incredible sharpness and personality. Popping the lens in-and-out feels like a party trick, and allows the camera to be incredibly portable. This series is a great choice for anyone wanting the detail of medium-format without the hassle of a sizable kit.
The lack of visual aids for focusing adds a fun game of “guess-stimating”, and the absence of a light meter can be compensated for by a simple phone app (which was used for these images).

We currently have a similar camera, the Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta, in our secondhand cabinet. It has just been fully serviced, so check it out on our website or give us a call!

Introducing: PROGEAR SPOTLIGHT.
Here at Progear, we aren’t biased by commission or swayed by hype. This new series is to showcase the potential of any camera, not just the new, flashy ones (although, we can’t complain about those either).
We’re photographers, too, and our philosophy is simple: celebrate craft, promote storytelling, and take great images. We believe that good photography is everywhere, no matter the camera. No AI to be found here.

PROGEAR SPOTLIGHT: CONTAX 645
New to our secondhand cabinet, the Contax 645 was launched in 1999 and remains a legendary pro medium format camera. The attached images are from our test rolls developed by .photo (thanks, team!).
Distinctive and desirable, this camera became a favourite among wedding and portrait photographers. The autofocus capabilities, matched with the beloved Zeiss lenses, meant it reigned supreme compared to other medium format cameras of its time. Some would argue it remains unparalleled.
“It’s the G.O.A.T..” - Aston, who shot the test rolls.
Our camera comes kitted with multiple lenses, a prism finder, various film backs (unfortunately no digital back), and other accessories.
Check it out on our website.

PROGEAR SPOTLIGHT: Fujifilm GFX 100S
With rich colours and vicious detail, the GFX 100S boasts a huge 100MP sensor that is perfect for both personal and professional.
It’s a serious performer in the medium-format category and compared to others, the GFX 100S’ lightweight body and image stabilisation means it is up for any job or adventure. If you can get one of these secondhand, it is well worth it.
This camera is truly a fine example of how far digital photography has come.

PROGEAR SPOTLIGHT: Olympus AF-1 Twin
A point-and-shoot that is reassuringly solid and a natural companion. The Olympus AF-1 Twin offers a comfortable entry into 35mm film photography, as well as being the perfect toy for any pro. It’s fully automatic, sturdily weather-sealed, and keeps everything simple.
Instead of your standard compact, typically featuring a zoom lens, the Olympus AF-1 Twin has two prime lenses built into the camera: a 35mm and a 70mm that drops down at the push of a button. Versatility, without any extra gear.
Originally released in 1988, the AF-1 Twin is still a great balance of simplicity, robustness, and creativity.

PROGEAR SPOTLIGHT: Ricoh GR III
The Ricoh GR III is the perfect pocket-sized companion. Super fast with a hefty APS-C sensor, its size-to-image quality ratio makes it a favourite among travellers, and the Snap Focus feature allows you to capture moments on the go.
These images were taken while travelling through Frankfurt, Germany and Aarhus, Denmark.
It’s a great excuse to leave your phone in your pocket, stay present, and allow the camera to do the work.
