Good design here wasn't about trends — it was about understanding how this family actually lives, and designing a home that fits around them.
Every project starts with the same questions:
→ How do you use this room day-to-day?
→ What's not working in your current home?
→ What do you want to feel when you walk in?
The answers to those questions shape everything — layout, light, materials, furniture. The look follows from the brief.

There's something about winter that changes the way we see a home.
The rooms that earn their place in June are the ones designed for this — layered textiles, considered lighting, somewhere genuinely good to sit.
We've always believed a home should work hardest in the quiet seasons. That's what we design for.

Kitchen Design Trends 2026 — Part One is live on the journal.
After more than a decade of designing kitchens, here’s the truth I share
with every client: every kitchen dates. So pick the kitchen that feels
like home, not the safest one.
For 2026, that means a real move away from the all-white kitchen —
and a confident embrace of colour, texture and layered detail.
Inside Part One:
// Two very different looks taking centre stage — minimalist vs maximalist
// The joy of hidden everything (yes, even the microwave)
// Goodbye white. Hello walnut, deep greens, rust and terracotta
// Bold natural stone used like sculpture
// Curves, fluted glass and the return of separate rooms
// Lighting goes properly bold
Read Part One here https://www.hellosaturday.co.nz/blog/2026/5/21/kitchen-design-trends-2026-style.
Part Two — the technical bits — lands in July.
Our Bali travel journal is now live — a quiet reflection on Uluwatu, Gili Meno and the details that stay with us long after a trip ends.
For us, travel is never just about where we go. It shapes how we think about interiors: light, texture, materials, restraint, and the connection between indoors and out.

Coastal Charm, Narrow Neck. A 1950s beach house. A family of five. Not enough space — until now.
Watch as this beloved home pushes out, opens up, and becomes everything this family needed it to be. A brand new adults retreat with master, ensuite, walk-in wardrobe, and office. A reconfigured living space that finally connects to the backyard. A 4th bedroom. A second bathroom. Room to breathe.Same street. Same view. Completely transformed.
→ What space would you add to your home if you could?

I think my dog Billie would almost go unrecognised in this beanbag! 🐶
I’m all about those interiors that wrap you in warmth. There's something about winter that just calls for cosy corners with layers of texture on texture - plush textiles, warm lighting, timber and tonal colour palettes.
If you need advice on how to create this cosy look at home (including sourcing large floor rugs, custom furniture, lighting or soft furnishings etc) then please DM, I'd be happy to help.
Thanks, Mary-Ellen
