I help homeowners AVOID joining 74.6% of households who do NOT love their home improvement project. This confirmed this same personal research.
I've been in the Design/Creative industry for over 35 years as an Architect, Interior Designer & later as a Cabinetry Designer for a Kitchen Company. (I also created and ran an eCommerce store for 13 years…) here in Auckland, New Zealand. With all this experience, I noticed that there have been 3 main issues that arose when designing projects for residential clients. Firstly, when homeowners started to talk to a professional without a strong Brief, their confidence and decision-making skills were usually unclear and many couldn't visualise the overall finished concept without the aid of 3D drawings. Secondly, many clients who were greatly influenced by seasonal trends weren't confident in their ability to create the design they ultimately wanted that surpassed fads. Thirdly, there were a lot of last-minute changes throughout projects causing costly re-draws and budget blowouts. I then commissioned formal research with Kiwis who had just finished a project on their home either DIY or engaged with an interior designer, architect, kitchen designer, landscape designer or other professional. While not completely dissatisfied with the result, a staggering 42% stated: "something just isn't right." So I now specialise in pre-design clarity for this large group of people. What is it & more importantly, why do you need pre-design clarity? Creating Design Clarity has been developed to help clients who get stuck at the basic foundational stages of the design process; decisions about colour, styling, purchasing and layout that reflect their unique personality. These are the foundation stones of putting a renovation or building project scheme together with confidence, and step into the next stage of the design journey of DIY or getting a professional involved. My role is to help the owner gather all their inspiration together and give them the tools to tap into their creativity and get ‘design clarity’. It starts with what colours to use in their home, how to blend them, as well as creating a whole personalised palette of style, design etc that’s perfect for them and their partners/family members, to make them all feel the best in their home! These are the services I offer to empower you to:

* Choose colour palettes that work with your personality
* Learn how to define what your dream home, or a specific space, might look like before employing professionals or DIY help.
* Develop confidence & identify; the essence of your unique style and colour palette, which is a key to creating a home or any space you love!
* Create harmonious spaces in your home for different members or a blended family living together. Ignore seasonal design trends to create a home you love for years before requiring updates.
* Write a project brief to help you communicate confidently and clearly with Creatives, various trades plus friends & family members, or Professionals, or during the design process with an Architect, Engineer, Interior Designer, your personality and style are expressed clearly and come through accurately in the final design.
* Plan the elements & style for your new indoor or outdoor space to achieve a home you are proud of.
* Create a simple budget, layouts and use a tool to check your ideas are feasible.
* Learn about and identify your ‘Home Wellness®’ (advanced stage)

What to do with left over Sourdough starter! After 3 days baking, 9 loaves, 3 with wheat flour i milled myself, i was in such a rhythm I made an extra starter. What to do 😂 I've made these before, they're lethal, they're good when fresh out of the oven with warm cream cheese and double cream icing! 😋

Celebrated the final session of my first, but not last, Design Your Home with Confidence Course that I've been teaching at Selwyn Community Education.
Not everyone was there but we had such a wonderful time. Loved seeing everyone present their project stories. I was extremely proud of the outcomes.
My heart was very full for how much they'd learnt and incorporated using my Austin Home Design Method that I'd developed over the last 6 years. It's been a mission personally to get to stand in this place where I can bring in all my knowledge and experience from all sides of the design realm.
I'm proud of myself, and thankful to those around me that have shared the trials and tribulations of seeing this work come to fruition. It's got a long way to go, but this was the first step into the arena.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about a 4-week course I'm running — Design Your Home with Confidence — starting Tuesday, 28 July at Selwyn Community College.
The most common question I've had: "Is this for someone who already has ideas, or someone who has no idea where to begin?"
Both genuinely.
