⚠️ Eliminating NORM exposure with closed-loop sand management

In offshore operations, exposure to naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) and hazardous substances such as H₂S and benzene has too often been seen as an unavoidable risk of sand handling. It doesn’t need to be.

Conventional methods involve manually transferring sand into skips for storage and disposal – a process that exposes personnel at multiple points.

FourPhase’s DualFlow closed-loop dual cyclone desander provides a safer alternative by enabling 100% hands-free solids removal:

✔️ No confined space entry
✔️ Reduced exposure to NORM and VOCs
✔️ Lower carbon footprint through more efficient logistics

We're happy to see international media taking note of our recent remote intervention project with Aker BP.

It serves as a testament that the industry is not only ready for remote operations, but that FourPhase is in the forefront of this.

FourPhase has been developing remote operations technology since 2018, and the Aker BP project marks a key step toward our long-term goal of fully autonomous solids management.

An industry-first in the North Sea 🌊

FourPhase has successfully completed the world’s first fully remote solids management project in intervention operations, working alongside AkerBP.

Over an eight-week coiled tubing cleanout campaign, we:

✅ Removed 2.8 tonnes of solids from two wells with chalk bridges

✅ Prevented two potential shut-in wells and significant lost revenue

✅ Operated all solids handling remotely via AkerBP’s Stavanger control centre using our Observer platform

This project is a milestone for the industry, proving that remote solids management is not just possible, but practical and reliable.

This month, we're shining a light on our growing impact across the UK and North Sea.

A standout case in point: a well that hadn’t flowed for two years has been brought back into continuous production, generating an impressive US $2.6 million in monthly revenue.

What made this turnaround possible?

Innovative closed-loop sand management: We deployed a DualFlow desander accompanied by two solids tanks and safety shut-off valves. This automated system manages solid removal while eliminating manual handling and separator access risks.

Safety-first, remote focus: The operation required no confined-space entry and was controlled remotely from the platform office, achieving continuous production with zero HSE incidents.

The well is now delivering around 1,000 barrels of oil and 1.8 mmscfd of gas per day, restoring what was once a dormant well into a high-value asset.
