Can we make digital privacy and data control tangible?
Privacy is important — we all know that.
But it’s also abstract, invisible… and easy to forget.
That’s exactly what kept Nethan Supakitchumnan busy the last few months.
As part of his Master in Data Driven Design at Hogeschool Utrecht, he developed a concept that brings data autonomy into the real world.
The result? A physical data pod — a prototype that lets you see, feel, and interact with your personal data.
From managing warranties to understanding what you’ve shared (and with whom), this project shows how privacy by design can be practical, personal, and even tangible.
👏 Well done, Nethan!

“We need to rethink the economic model around sharing data.” — Meredith Whittaker in NRC last weekend.
“We need to rethink the economic model around sharing data.” — Meredith Whittaker in NRC last weekend.
In a sharp interview, Signal’s president praises the Dutch public for choosing privacy over profit:
“The Netherlands said ‘fck you, Meta’ — and started downloading Signal.” (link in comments)
Whittaker is clear: data exploitation isn’t a technical issue — it’s an economic and political one.
And since people want to keep sharing data, we’d better make the default way of doing so secure, sustainable, and respectful by design.

Imagine waking up, opening an app, and instantly seeing:
✅ Who has your personal data
✅ What they’re using it for
✅ And being able to change that, in real time
That’s not a distant dream. That's what we are building here at Stichting de Nederlandse Datakluis.
‘Nederland zei ‘f**k you, Meta’ en begon Signal te downloaden’ Meredith Whittaker: Meredith Whittaker is de president van Signal, de privacy-vriendelijke concurrent van WhatsApp. Over ‘Signalgate‘, de chaos bij Google, en de AI-hype: „Er is altijd de neiging om een hype te beloven, om ’m te faken desnoods.”

But is it real privacy—or just a shift in control?
The Sandbox reduces cross-site tracking but keeps Google in charge.

📚 Het internet is stuk, says Marleen Stikker.
And she’s right.
We lost control of our data — but we can take it back.
Let’s fix the internet. For people, not platforms.
