Dads, you don’t need a king’s ransom to spoil her - The Netherlands offers many ways to make the day extra special while keeping it family-friendly.

Outing Suggestions:

• Park Picnics: Instead of an expensive brunch, head to Vondelpark in Amsterdam, Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam, or Wilhelminapark or Maxima Park in Utrecht. Take homemade snacks and a blanket for a scenic family lunch.

• Beach Walks: Take a train to Zandvoort or Scheveningen. A long walk on the beach followed by an ice cream or cocktails and lunch at one of the pop-up restaurants on the beach.

• Open-Air Windmills: Visit the Zaanse Schans area. Walk through the historic windmill village and seeing the cheese-making demonstrations.

Gifts & Surprises:

Supermarket Flowers: Retailers like Albert Heijn, Jumbo, and Lidl sell beautiful, fresh bouquets.

Breakfast in Bed: A quintessential tradition. Buy fresh croissants and strawberries and champagne and orange juice to make mimosa for a high-impact, morning surprise.

High Tea: Theehuis Rhijnauwen (Near Utrecht): Located in a beautiful forest, this pancake house also offers a tea service. It’s perfect if there are kids who want to run around outside while moms enjoy their tea.

Pannenkoekenhuizen: Many local pancake houses across the country offer a “High Tea” option and is very welcoming to families with small children.

Cash is King (Today Only): The Netherlands is usually 100% digital, but for the Vrijmarkt (the nationwide flea market), you’ll need small change. It’s the BEST time to find unique, vintage decor for your new Dutch apartment!

Download 'Buienradar': The only thing more Dutch than King’s Day is Dutch rain. Check the app every 30 minutes so you don't get soaked mid-party.

The Toilet Strategy: Have a €1 or €2 coin ready. Many locals open their homes for "paid p*e" breaks. Trust us, it’s a lifesaver when the cafes are packed! You can also download HogeNood, an app that will show you where to find WC (water closets)

Skip the Trains: Major city centers (especially Amsterdam and Utrecht) are at a standstill. Stay local, walk the canals, and soak in the neighborhood vibes.

This year’s parade takes place on Friday 17 April (evening light parade) and Saturday 18 April (main parade), perfect timing for a spring weekend outing.

Vrijdagavond 17 april trappen we af door Noordwijkerhout — lichtjes aan, sfeer omhoog ✨
Zaterdag 18 april vertrekken we vanuit Noordwijk en trekken we dwars door de Bollenstreek richting Haarlem.
42 kilometer, 8 dorpen, één groot feest vol bloemen, trots en kippenvelmomenten 🌼🚜

A first reminder about the route.
We kick-off on Friday 17th April in the evening through Noordwijkerhout — the lights are on and the mood is electric ✨

On Saturday 18th April we leave Noordwijk bright and early and ride through the bulb district all the way to Haarlem. 42 kilometres , 8 villages, one big festival of floats and flowers. We are bursting with pride as we see the reactions of the thousands of spectators along the route. 🌼🚜

This is Bloemencorso Bollenstreek. You experience it and never forget it. 💐💛
