The European Commission has launched a new initiative, Protecting Children Against Crime, aimed at strengthening the prevention of and response to crimes affecting children across the EU. The initiative seeks to improve child protection, support victims, and ensure that justice, social, education, and child protection services work together more effectively.
As part of the process, the Commission has opened a ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ฏ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐๐,inviting stakeholders, practitioners, organisations, and citizens to share their views and help shape future EU action.

The Probation Board for Northern Ireland(PBNI) has collaborated on a new BBC documentary presented by Carl Frampton, offering a unique insight into probation work and its impact on individuals, families and communities.
The documentary follows Carl Frampton as he explores the challenges of supporting people to move away from offending and break the cycle of reoffending, meeting both probation professionals and those working to rebuild their lives.

On 27 and 28 May 2026, Bucharest hosted the CEP Workshop on Caseload and Workload: Supporting Sustainable Probation Through the Human Dimension. With 40 participants representing 18 European jurisdictions, as well as delegates from South Korea, the workshop offered opportunities to exchange knowledge and develop strategies to manage the increasing caseload and workload in probation. Designed as an interactive space, it provided participants - practitioners, managers, researchers and experts โ with reflections on current pressures within probation services and it explored practical, evidenceโinformed solutions from across Europe.

๐ข CEP publishes the European Mental Health Training Curriculum for Probation Staff
1) CEP is proud to launch a groundbreaking European curriculum designed to strengthen probation staff competence and mental health literacy across Europe.
Developed by the CEP Expert Group on Mental Health in Probation, the curriculum covers key topics including trauma, psychosis, substance use, crisis intervention, neurodivergence, gender, and staff resilience.
2) ๐ CEP is also launching a call for one member jurisdiction to pilot the curriculum nationally, with:
