Wow! Last Saturday, we celebrated with a (dance) party for the launch of a genuine Mascolori-Shōfūkan unisex sneaker.
Jochem Grund, founder and owner of shoe store and manufacturer Mascolori, presented the first two pairs of the Shofukan/Mascolori sneaker to Joris van Nispen and Tini Van de Wetering
Dancer Arturo Vargas inaugurated the sneakers with an impressive and captivating choreography, both in the garden and in the dojo. He danced to the song Shofukan by Snarky Puppy —written in 2012 at Shofukan by Michael League Plays Music
This limited edition sneaker is handcrafted from beautiful green (vegan) materials, featuring a fitting pine tree pattern. “Shofu” in Shofukan means wind blowing through the pines. The shoes are suitable for both women and men, and you can order your size via https://lnkd.in/e32tSmrR.

Last Friday, June 27 2025, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Shōfūkan - the centre for Japanese culture in Rotterdam. Berry Kuijer and Wies Weening invited all attendees into the dojo with a spectacular taiko performance, where Shinto in Europe conducted a Shinto ceremony. Tamagushi hōten was performed by Shōfūkan initiators Joris van Nispen and Tini Van de Wetering, accompanied by his excellency ambassador Minami, honourable alderman Said Kasmi, and chairman of the Supervisory Board Stam. On June 28th, we celebrated our 20th anniversary with a special enbu (demonstration) showcasing various martial arts. It was a unique occasion to see them all together in the dojo of Shofukan. In this photo, we see naginata by Shiseikan & Mark Berghaan. In Japan, 95% of its practitioners are women. Historically, it was a form of self-defense.
