BOOK LAUNCH: WHEN IDENTITY COMES, RESTORATION COMES , EBINYO MARVIN TUNER URGES BAYELSA SCHOOLs TO ADOPT ECHOES OF THE FORGOTTEN

By Yerindideke Kindness Ayibakuro

Government officials, youth organisations, business and entrepreneurship circles converged in Yenagoa for the 2ND EDITION OF ECHOES DAY, which featured the official Book Launch, ECHOES OF THE FORGOTTEN, a new book authored by Hon Akekere Imuonane Jerry.

The event, which brought together community leaders, intellectuals, young people and other distinguished guests, centred on the importance of preserving history, identity, heritage and the stories of people and communities.
The occasion also coincided with the author’s birthday, making the event a double celebration of literary accomplishment and another milestone in his life.

Speaking at the event, Akekere described ECHOES OF THE FORGOTTEN as “not merely a book but a covenant of memories and real identity, with attempt to gather the scattered fragments of people, generations, heritage and preserve them through deliberate documentation.

He noted that communities should not be remembered or defined only by their oil and natural resources but by the intelligence, values, history and human potential surrounding their children, communities and roots.
According to him, the book is intended for families, students, leaders and institutions seeking direction, as well as for people and stories that have been forgotten.

The author also described Comrade Atti J. Moses as a brother and intellectual sparring partner, appreciating his contributions and everyone who supported his journey to the successful publication and launch of the book.

He further disclosed that , he would launch another book titled MEMORIES OF REAL AFRICA IN 2027, using the occasion to encourage Africans and their communities to take ownership of their narratives.

"Let’s start telling our stories, he said.

Stressing the importance of documenting African experiences for future generations.

The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. High Chief Ebinyo Marvin Tuner, represented by Ogbomade Johnson Itutumeni, urged the Bayelsa State Education Board to consider implementing ECHOES OF THE FORGOTTEN in schools and other educational institutions.

He emphasised that reconnecting young people with their history and identity could contribute significantly to cultural preservation and societal development.

“When identity comes, restoration comes, he said.

The celebration ended on a memorable note as guests joined the author to mark his birthday alongside the book launch.

The convergence of literature, identity, community history and personal celebration provided a fitting platform for Akekere to reflect on his journey while unveiling a work he described as a deliberate contribution towards ensuring that the voices, memories and heritage of forgotten people and generations are not lost to history.

As the echoes of the forgotten continue to find expression through the written word, the message from the event remained clear,

"People who preserve their stories preserve their identity and people who preserve their identity create a strong foundation for restoration and the future.

Bayelsa APC Leadership Seeks Elder Statesman’s Support as Working Committee Visits Former Deputy Governor John Jonah

The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Warman Weri Ogoriba, has continued its engagement with critical stakeholders and elder statesmen in the state as part of efforts to strengthen unity, foster wider consultations, and position the party for victory in the forthcoming elections.

In continuation of this strategic engagement, the Bayelsa State APC Working Committee paid a familiarity and consultation courtesy visit to the former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State and immediate past Chairman of the Bayelsa State Elders Council, His Excellency, Real Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd.), at his residence in Yenagoa.

The visit, which brought together members of the State Working Committee and other prominent leaders, was described as a significant step towards deepening the party’s relationship with respected stakeholders and drawing from their wealth of experience in the political development of the state.

Ogoriba Apologizes for Change in Appointment Time

Speaking during the visit, the APC State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Warman Weri Ogoriba, first apologized to the former Deputy Governor for the adjustment of the scheduled appointment from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., explaining that the change was necessitated by an urgent engagement.

He thereafter introduced members of the State Working Committee to the former Deputy Governor, giving each member the opportunity to identify themselves and formally establish a relationship with the elder statesman.

Rt. Hon. Ogoriba, on behalf of the entire Bayelsa State APC, expressed appreciation to Real Admiral John Jonah for his distinguished service and unwavering contributions to the development of Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

He particularly acknowledged the former Deputy Governor’s wealth of political and administrative experience, noting that such experience remains invaluable to the party at a time when unity, consultation, reconciliation, and collective responsibility are required to move the APC forward.

The APC Chairman appealed to the former Deputy Governor to continue to offer his fatherly guidance, advice, and support to the party, emphasizing that the APC needs the wisdom and experience of respected statesmen like him to build a stronger, more united political family ahead of the forthcoming elections.

According to him, the purpose of the consultation is not merely political, but also to strengthen relationships among leaders and stakeholders and create a platform where everyone can work together toward the common interest of Bayelsa State.

John Jonah Commends APC Leadership for Consultation

Responding, the former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State and former Chairman of the Bayelsa State Elders Council, His Excellency, Real Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd.), warmly received and entertained the APC Working Committee.

He commended the State Chairman and members of his executives for taking the initiative to visit and consult with political leaders and stakeholders across the state.

Real Admiral John Jonah described the visit as “one of a kind,” observing that, in his many years of political involvement and public service, he had rarely witnessed a party leadership undertake such a deliberate and inclusive consultation with stakeholders.

He praised the Rt. Hon. Warman Weri Ogoriba-led APC leadership for recognizing the importance of engaging elders, leaders, and critical stakeholders in the process of rebuilding and strengthening the party.

The former Deputy Governor noted that the decision to consult widely was a step in the right direction and could contribute significantly to the party’s chances of achieving victory in future elections.

He stressed the importance of unity, mutual respect, strategic planning, and effective leadership, while encouraging the party leadership to remain focused and committed to building a cohesive political structure.

Former Deputy Governor Shares Winning Strategy

Real Admiral John Jonah also used the occasion to offer what he described as practical political tactics capable of helping the APC strengthen its structure and improve its prospects at the polls.

He emphasized the need for leaders and members of the party to work together, put aside unnecessary differences, strengthen grassroots engagement, and maintain continuous consultations with stakeholders.

He encouraged the party leadership to remain open to constructive advice and to recognize the importance of experience, strategy, discipline, and teamwork in achieving electoral success.

The engagement ended on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism that sustained consultations and stronger relationships among party leaders and stakeholders would contribute to the growth and unity of the APC in Bayelsa State.
