With Isaiah Ayodele Ogundare – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉

What I admire about layers is their faithfulness. The moment they are unwell, they let you know by consuming less water and feed. Unfortunately, that also means a drop in egg production, which becomes a loss to the farmer. Though you safe little on feed and water but the biggest lost is drop in their production.

Giving feed to birds is not enough but giving appropriate ration and quality one is very important to growth and productivity of the birds. A well fed birds will give you value for your investment.

Your Birds are Talking, Here is How to Understand Them

A good farmer does not only feed birds…

A good farmer reads birds.

Your birds give clear signals about health, comfort and performance.

Here are the key things to observe:

1. Behaviour

Calm, active birds = good environment. Restless or silent birds = something is wrong.

2. Drinking and feeding

Any drop in intake, even for a few hours, can signal stress, disease or climate issues.

3. Sound

Heavy breathing, coughing or “snicking” may be early signs of respiratory problems — best detected at night.

4. Litter condition

Wet litter = big future problems (ammonia, footpad damage, disease). Keep it dry and remove wet spots.

5. Body weight (weekly)

Consistent growth = healthy flock. Irregular growth = immediate action needed.
