It does hurt. Like a dull ache you can’t really explain to someone who hasn’t felt it.

Loving someone who doesn’t love you back puts you in a weird spot — you’re giving your heart to a place that isn’t open to hold it. And the worst part is, you can’t force feelings to change. No amount of being good enough, patient enough, or present enough will make it happen if it’s not there.

It hurts because you’re grieving something that never actually existed between you two, even if it felt real to you. That’s valid.

The part that helps is remembering: the love you’re capable of giving isn’t wasted. It just needs to land on someone who meets it, not chases away from it.
