Looking back, I realize it wasn’t the easy days or the wins that shaped me, it was the challenges I never expected.

A friend of mine met a guy at a party in Lagos. He had a nice car, looked handsome, and seemed like “the full package.

At first, it was all sweet messages, calls, and little gestures he even paid for dinner at a new spot in Victoria Island. She felt like she had “hit jackpot.

But after a few months, things changed. He would take days to reply. Sometimes, he ghosted her for weeks. When they met, he was distracted always checking his phone or talking about money problems.

She tried to understand, even lent him money once because he said he was in a tight spot. But whenever she tried to talk about their future, he would dodge the conversation or say, “Let’s take it slow.

Then came the family pressure:
“Are you sure he’s serious? Nigerian boys aren’t ready to settle early oh...
That’s when she realized some people are good at looking serious but not ready to match your energy or commitment.

She stepped back, focused on her career, friends, and self-respect. Within months, the “hot guy” who ghosted her? He was back sliding into her messages but now, she wasn’t available.

Lesson: Your peace and growth are worth more than someone’s temporary charm. Don’t beg for attention that doesn’t come naturally.
