Akwete is handmade on a loom, woven one thread at a time by skilled artisans traditional women.
The cloth mixes cotton, wool, silk, raffia, or h**p fibers, depending on the design and use.
Unlike printed fabrics like Ankara, Akwete’s beauty comes from its weaving patterns and the textures in the fabric itself.
Today, designers incorporate Akwete into contemporary fashion from shirts and dresses to accessories while still celebrating its historical craftsmanship and identity.
