Borehole seismic in basalt formation
Hello, We are planning a borehole seismic (VSP) in a geological setting of top basalt of 1 km thickness and down below fractured granite. Our target for borehole imaging is granite basement below basalt. What will be best seismic source ( dynamite, vibrosis or airgun in a pit) for borehole survey in this geological setting. There is a dam within 10-15 km distance from this borehole site. As per my understanding dynamite will be best source but is it recommended to use other kind of sources in this kind of geological setting, considering environmental issues.
Are there any advantages in processing seismic data with sample interval of 2ms vs 4ms for a target depth of 3km?
Does anyone know why we put the a geophone near the plate in refraction survey land acquisition especially the first shot?
Seismology is the scientific study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies. The field also includes studies of earthquake effects, such as tsunamis as well as diverse seismic sources such as volcanic, tectonic, oceanic, atmospheric, and artificial processes (such as explosions). A related field that uses geology to infer information regarding past earthquakes is…
